Closet Smoker? To heck with that! When I was a smoker I did not give a rats a$$ about what people thought of my smoking!
As a matter a fact, if they did not provide a smoking area in what I deemed a resonable distance I would simply light up right where I was with absolutely no care about non-smokers.
Was almost to the point of buying a shirt that said "Smoking Section".
Here are some of the places I lit up and my Nicotine induced justifications.
In my seat on an airplane - no one consulted me regarding their no-smoking policy.
Walking to my gate at most airports - Not my fault they do not have sufficient ventilation.
Nearly all restrooms - Who is going to complain about smell?
Grocery stores - You want my business? Im smokin!
Hardware stores - Does anyone really care?
Let's not forget the gas station when I am buying another carton - Drop my lit butt on the floor stomp it out and say to the clerk, "Carton of Marlboro lights please".
Oh, here was my favorite, the bathroom in a private room at Hospital - The floor nurse would have an absolute Cow, but I would smile and say, can't just go outside and have a smoke looking like this now can I?
Yes, I was quite the rebel :8|:

I was a sort of "closet smoker". I never smoked in the house, car, or when I went places. I always smoked in a little corner in my backyard. I smoked a few cigs before work and none until I got home. Somehow managed to smoke a pack or more a day. No one but my immediate family and close friends knew I smoked. But who did I think I was fooling? I constantly brushed my teeth, washed my hands, sprayed perfume. One time my neighbor told me she could smell me smoking when the wind was blowing the right way! Busted!

An interesting thought I had recently. I never actually thought of myself as a "smoker" till I started to quit. For years and years I convinced myself that I was a non-smoker who just happened to smoke sometimes. :confuse: Even if "sometimes" became 10-12 cigs a day, every day! :gasp: Talk about fooling myself!
I'm finally now the non-smoker everyone else always thought I was!
Also - welcome to you H. Your story sounds so familiar - making excuses to stay home, sneaking in smokes and then rushing to shower before anyone came home! I was the queen of hairspray, mouthwash and skin lotion!
Congrats on your success - you can do it and you will feel so much better for it!
