Dear Trudy
Congratulations on your decision to quit!
Your post was not long at all, considering you were here to end a 30 year habit right here!
You have come to the right place to do this. Come here everyday and often everyday if you need help.
I too smoked for over 30 years. I did not find this site/group until around day 35 of my quit.
NO DOUBT in my mind if I had been here from day 1 it would have been less painful.
Stay Strong Trudy
Karen

Nonic
I will give your suggestion a try. My moms doc never suggested to tell her she doesn't smoke. I did ask the doc, when will she forget she smokes and he said probably never.
This was never really a problem for me though until I quit, as if I spent more then an hour with her, I would WANT to go outside and smoke.
Thanks Nonic!!

Neek
Way to go......3 weeks is awesome!!!
More stuff about is it easier when your 26 compared to when your 46??
I think ABSOLUTELY NOT.
However, If you stay quit.....when your my age of 46ish, you won't be saying, If I had only stayed quit 20 years ago at the age of 26 I wouldn't have emphysema. If I had quit at the age of 26 I wouldn't look like I were 56 instead of younger then 46. If I stayed quit at age of 26, I would still have all of my beautiful white healthy teeth.
If I had stayed quit at age 26 I wouldn't have spent an additional $50,000 on something that is going to kill me!! (making that number up.....but imagine its not too unrealistic) 20 years at 4.50 a day is about $38,000 but cigs might be $10 a pack a decade from now!
Stay Quit Neek and Congrats on 3+ weeks!!!
Signed

Dear Cuddles
Thanks much for the bump.
Powerful stuff here.
I actually got very emotional as I have done the hospital gig with my mom for a decade now. We put her in a nursing home (no choice). She does not know me or my sisters names. When she sees us it is because we will be taking her outside to feed her devil. Again, she doesnt know my name....when she sees me, she sees a pack of smokes. That is all she cares about. It is hard to even just forget that she is still alive waiting for me to show up so she can smoke. (I know that sounds cruel....but it has been a long 10 years)
CUDDLES WHAT GOING ON WITH YOU MOM??? Been a week or so since you updated. Hows being home for her and YOU??
Thanks much for the emphysema info. You have helped me so much.
Sweet Regards
Kare

Dear Teppy
Welcome to the group and congratulations on your quit.
Yes, I have definitely experienced similar symptoms.
I am learing it takes a long time for your body to recover from smoking.
Great ideal, Please see your doctor as soon as possible.

Josie and Casey Your dedication is admirable, No doubt there is a place in heaven for both of you. I have been searching the threads for COPD, thanks for the advice.
Bob, thanks for your insight, especially being a nurse. And for the boost of confidence. :) you gave me. I am beginning to wonder about the "scare theory" as many of my friends said they too have been given the same scare tactics by the doc.
Christine, you and I seem to have more then a few things in common with age and mom and our quit. I am sorry about your mom. It is hard to watch. My mom is my inspiration to quit smoking. Because I do not want to wind up like her!! Thanks for writing and sharing. I am not alone. I appreciate your note MUCH.
Kaiser, thanks for writing and when I started searching threads about COPD I ran across your name. Did you get that chest X-Ray yet?? I hope you did.
Thanks

Nope Neek
I don't think its easier for you at your young age. I am 47 and smoked 34 years. If were easy I would have done it when I was 26.
I can say, if I had this forum when I were age and if I had a bunch of older people to support me and hear about the stuff they have been through, I might have been able to quit at your age.
I can also tell you smoking is my BIGGEST REGRET in life.
And that quitting is thing I am most proud of myself for doing in my life.
I can't nag my nieces and nephews Neek about quitting.........so I love talking to young people that are open to this.
I am so proud of you!

Dear Josie
Thanks for the advice.
I sort of got it resolved for the moment.
The Lung doc actually was not able to write the script because he said too many times his scripts are turned down as a lung doc would prescribe Zyban for a patient to stop smoking. Zyban is not covered by insurance.
Like you Josie, he was able to offer advise to help me try and get this resolved and he helped me make a plan.
I made an appointment with my primary care doc for 2 weeks from today. I am also doing homework about getting a name at United Healthcare and I already have the same time set up with a Pharmacist and we are going to have a 3 way. (heeheehee) The Pharmacist said it, not me!!
So I have an appointment with the doc, a time set up with the Pharmacist and we will do the call and get the "pre-authorization" needed to get this script filled. Then I will not have to go through that again for a year!
And my lung doc gave me a couple of scripts to fill today and highly recommended I just pay cash for 2 weeks supply of the Wellbutrin I need until this is resolved and I have done that. So I am medicated again.
Everyone can come out now. LOL
Thanks Josie for the great advice....it got me in a direction to get this resolved.

Hey Guys
I am 47 years old and smoked for 34 years.
I got the results back from my lung biopsy yesterday.
Good news is the mass in my lungs is scar tissue, not cancer.
Bad news is the damage in my lungs is Emphysema/COPD.
I am OK with this. I brought this on myself.
I had a smokers cough for a couple of years and always proclaimed it was a "cold". I had a couple of real bad cases of pneumonia and only slowed down smoking never stopping. I even smoked in the bathroom when I was in the hospital with pneumonia.
I am past beginning stages of Emphysema and COPD. But not quite advanced. Doc said start smoking again or one more bad pneomia and my new best friend will be an oxygen tank.
Basically he went on and on about how I have the capacity of a 90 year old with a half a lung that NEVER smoked. He went on and on about No Smoking.
I appreciate what the lung doc had to say that I deserved everything he said about smoking and NOT smoking........
However my doc gave me nothing on Emphysema and COPD. I heard the word emphysema and frankly it was not less scarier then the word cancer at the moment.
He gave me a couple of prescriptions and said see ya in a month and don't smoke.
So, sure today I have done a little research on the Internet.
I am finding Emphysema and COPD can be managed.
Is anyone in this group in my boat?? Is anyone around my age? (47)
As Always....thanks
Kare
