is this really the right time to quit?

There is no better time to quit than 22 days ago. Life has its difficulties, and we will always have them. Your dilemma, because of the daughter, and the sudden change in living status, makes you especially vulnerable to lapsing. We can always find excuses. My wife died in my arms. If I did not smoke then, all of us can do this. Do this for your kid if not for yourself. She will need you more as time goes by. Be the father you can be. Get healthier by the day. This Thing Called Addiction.....and half-baked excuses.

Did you know that if a frog had wings he would not bump his butt when he jumps. Yet, I believe that everytime Mother Nature offers up wings for the frog they decline them for no good reason. Same here for nicotine addiction. That junk is so strong it pulls at us and as Melanie mentioned in another thread...fear of failure sets in. It is to hot...no it is to cold...no it is to rainy...no it is to sunny...no it is snowy outside...etc, etc. Give yourselves to the effort completely and a higher power will help you conquer and achieve your goals. Let me tell you about half-baked excuses...that is a term used in sales training to mean that the excuses a salesperson will encounter in his travels are really not the real reason the prospect doesn't (We are just looking, I can't afford it, we'll be back, etc. Same with half-baked excuses here toward why some people has difficulty and road blocks in the quit journey. The solution and formula for success are simple indeed: It is PREPARATION! The equation to those two are just on the right of this screen. I want all who read this to honestly remind yourself if you did the 6 miles journey, read the success stories, studies all the material that is provided, etc. If not, you did not want to really quit. Something has scared you into it and once you get over that fear...the junk man returns with more addiction than before. Kill him...you owe it to yourself and your loved ones. I know people in the smoke pit that will stay in the smoke pit. Why, I'll tell you why - Simply because they haven't the ability to quit nicotine. Are you one of those. Say no, please. New and excited and scared

Jump on in...the water is fine, unless you are not preparing yourself for the splunge. I used 21mg for 4 weeks, 14 mg for 4 weeks and lastly, 7mg for 4 weeks. Never looked back and have not smoked in over 1,650 days. How do we do it...again, preparation. Another thing I will share with you is that I would not think about it to long because the junkster if working overtime now to see that you do not quit. Please read a few of the success stories under the Hall of Fame button on the left. Mind included and you will see that after 46 years of tobacco, being a tobacco auctioneer and having a predisposition to nicotine because of my mother, I did it. You can too. Set a firm date and let us walk you through this journey. Start with the date and then the 6 mile journey to your left. Study all the program tools and community subjects available. Please remember that the patch, although a miracle for me, is no silver bullet. The silver bullet is in your inner self to stop and improve who you are. You mentioned you were a christian lady. Excellent, it don't get no better than having the big guy on your side during such times as these. Please develop a coping bag of tools, drop to your knees when needed, and reley on the fact that God, this site, the patch, and these members are your formula for success after you prep yourself. Good luck and congrats' Lindsey (a christian man) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/10/2001 Smoke-Free Days: 1651 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 99,098 Amount Saved: $16510 Life Gained: Days: 340 Hrs: 19 Mins: 8 Seconds: 37

Scared about the weekend

Lets see here - 24 hours in a day (Saturday) 8-10 could be used for sleeping 3 could be at a movie 5 could be at an interesting park/event 2-3 could be used at no-smoking eating establishments __ 21 used OK, take 2 naps or just sleep in longer. See, piece of cake. You can quit this thing if you really want to. Lindsey OH, a word of caution...on Sunday when you lasso your pals for some socializing, make sure no smoking/alcohol are allowed around you. Otherwise refer to schedule above for a possible Sunday also. Almost Ready To Quit

The lady above me here speaks volumnes in the fact that as Monday approaches the monster will be working on you. Hey, you are trying to kill it and it wants to live just like the rest of us. Your reasons to go ahead were all good ones in my view. Nothing however was mentioned about your health. The benefits of quitting would take us days to list...I seem to like the reason about those about us, do not deserve to die because of our second hand smoke. Your son makes a good point and I hope until Monday the pressure on you is so great that you simply cannot reconsider. Congrats' and I expect to see you here on Monday with an update. Has anyone tried the Quit Aid called "Final Smoke?"

So what now I ask? What do you want someone else or some site to do for you that you must first do for yourself. All those props, such as the patches, were just that props. You appear to want this without giving up anything in the way of misery on your part. All who have quit had to give up a lot to get where we are today. You too my friend must pay that price. Tuff love...perhaps. No silver bullet here either. However, take a peek at the aids listed on the left of this screen. Therein you will find a vast amount of information...both interactive and just plain learning. This is part of the price I speak about above. I am a bit annoyed that you apparently were smoking while typing this thread. You even commented about it in a rather cavalier way. You have not felt enough pain where you are in this addiction. That is even with the acheing chest, etc. You see, the monster is masking that things and do not want to let you have control here. Stop him/her in there tracks. You can do this...I did and I certainly am nothing special.
