I agree that ANY cigarette not smoked is a good thing. I used the gum to quit this time and it worked better than anything else I had tried. At first, I was chewing one piece an hour too. Are you chewing it long enough? The package says about 20 minutes but I chewed one peice for almost an hour then replaced it with another at first. I think I got addicted to chewing the gum so I replaced the nicorette gum with regular gum at times after 6 weeks. It did the same thing!
During the first week, you really have to keep busy. I started my first week on vacation. I knew I would be running from one thing to the next and it helped. At night I was exhausted and wanted sleep more than smoke cigarettes. Do you have any projects at home that would keep you really busy? Washing walls is tiring and will also remove any cigarette film and odor. It's really nice to walk into a room and breathe the fresh, clean smell deeply. Put on some really good music while washing the walls. This is really stupid but I would pretend that I was on some home decorating show and gave a running monologue on how to wash walls interspersed with singing. I looked nuts but it served two purposes!
