Day 5

Hang in here.....sleep patterns are disturbed even without the patches.....you can remove them at bedtime if you find that helps, but I wouldn't quit using them. I credit them with the success of my quit. Depression is normal also. and you are missing your "so-called" friend.....but as was stated...smoking is NO friend...it's the ENEMY. Keep the control....I know it doesn't "feel" like control at this point, but believe me, as long as you don't smoke it IS. YOU are in control. It WILL pass....think positive and get a reward program set up for yourself Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1478 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 59,133 Amount Saved: $8129 Life Gained: Days: 192 Hrs: 19 Mins: 51 Seconds: 43

herbal cigarettes

if you are smoking herbal cigarettes then you have NOT quit smoking. While nicotine is the drug of addiction, the killing power of a smoke lies in just that.....the smoke. you are getting your nicotine from the patch and keeping up the 'habit' with the herbal smokes. You are gaining nothing as far as I am concerned. I am not trying to be harsh.....but you gotta take the blinders off and look at what you are doing. perhaps as well as the using the patches you might consider wellbutrin? However you proceed from here, do NOT go and get cigarettes....destroy those herbal things and start your patch program from the beginning (withOUT smoking) Get yourself some straws, cinnamon sticks, hard candies, things to occupy your hands and to suck and chew on. Set aside the weight issue for right now. You can implement healthy snacks,,,,but deal with the quit first. and believe me when I say you CAN do this!!! my hubby and I smoked heavily for over 40 years and we are free from this monster! hang tough and kick some butt Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1478 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 59,133 Amount Saved: $8129 Life Gained: Days: 192 Hrs: 19 Mins: 53 Seconds: 58

Crave

The feelings are due to the fact that you are a nicotine addict.....get yourself a journal and write all this down.....what happens is a bit like childbirth.....after it's over, you feel free and you tend to even forget over the long haul how hard it was to quit smoking. A journal will refresh that memory when you later on feel tempted to smoke the proverbial "just one" hang tough....it will get better katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1480 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 59,212 Amount Saved: $8140 Life Gained: Days: 193 Hrs: 2 Mins: 0 Seconds: 59

husband away tonight - need support

today (tomorrow) when you check this thread, I want you to know how proud we are of you for hanging in here. quitting really sucks the first week or two. No doubt about it...it's tough. rmember that if you cave now, you will just have to repeat the beginning all over again.....what you want to do is NEVER repeat it! by holding on, you WILL get to safer ground....it becomes easier, and your feeling of confidence in yourself grows. YOU are now the one in control....I know it doesn't feel like that, but YOU are running the show by saying no to the addiction. Be sure to treat yourself to day.....treats/rewards are very important in quitting. you should work up a plan of rewards....then you focus on them and look forward to making it to them. It just helps a bit to have things to look forward to. have you worked through the online program to the left? It will give you suggestions and hints. and start yourself a quit journal....later when the craves have faded, you can read what you went through to get free of nicotine......that will help should you ever feel tempted to smoke the proverbial "just one" stick close to this site....post often....don't be afraid to ask for support, help and suggestions.....that's what this place is for Kick some butt today :) Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1480 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 59,235 Amount Saved: $8140 Life Gained: Days: 193 Hrs: 3 Mins: 53 Seconds: 59

WOW! He smelled BAD!

We didn't smell it cause we were oozing with it ourselves! You can smell a smoker even when he changes clothes, washes the hair and brushes the teeth. People who smoke just 'think' they don't smell.....I know cause I used to be one of them! the worst place for me after quitting was my car.....mercy that thing stunk. I shampooed and fabriezed till I was blue in the face.....the grandkids finally 'swore' to me that the smell was gone. LOL To this day, the smell of a smoker's car about gags me. Barely hanging on!!

you're going through that hard stretch when you really realize that you have said goodbye to smoking.....the junky in you rebels at the thought. You have managed to turn it around to where you see the positive.....keep it there now! It will pass katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1482 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 59,292 Amount Saved: $8151 Life Gained: Days: 193 Hrs: 8 Mins: 20 Seconds: 26

To NRT or not to NRT......that is the question (W. Shakespeare..deceased)

Brent....I think that your attitude toward quitting changed....and THAT is what makes the difference....no matter WHAT method you choose. It's when you decide you want to quit more than you want to smoke...... I used the patches and thought they helped me a 'lot'....I was the run out of cigs go into a total panic type person. The patches took the "edge" off. The quit has to be in your head so you can CONTROL what you do. katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1482 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 59,293 Amount Saved: $8151 Life Gained: Days: 193 Hrs: 8 Mins: 21 Seconds: 11

Out of the dump

Cuddles....you must stop this at once.....the addiction simply loves it if you take up a negative line of thinking...and this is what this is.....negative thinking. Get your mind off the slip up. It does NOT negate all the days you quit smoking....you still didn't smoke ALL those days. You stumbled and fell....now you are back up and running.....you must now concentrate on what is "ahead"....not what is over. The only import a slip should hold is to let you see how to better plan for whatever allowed you to cave. I don't know how long or signifigant your slip up was, but if you are NOW not smoking.....then THAT is all that is of import. Don't let yourself think about the slip....to do so is to dwell on smoking.(sometimes we don't realize that) and what you must do is dwell on NOT smoking.... These new stats are on TOP of your old stats. Get happy about THAT! You are back on the road to recovery. Be sure to REWARD yourself and quit with the punishment. Quitting is what rocks and that is what you are doing!!!! Katy Kickin' ASH for......Four years, six days, 13 hours, 23 minutes and 48 seconds. 58702 cigarettes not smoked, saving $8,365.08. Life saved: 29 weeks, 19 hours, 50 minutes.
