thank you! I am still hangin in there. I am also using the patch and it is causing me not to sleep well. I may need to stop using it but that makes me fearful that the cravings will get worse. I also take wellbutrin. Anybody else having trouble with the patch? soccermom

I was in tears some but mainly just have that feeling that I have lost my best friend. Last night I talked to a friend. This morning I excercised and talked to a friend again. Help! I don;t want to slip with the weekend coming! Soccermom

Soccermom, I'm with Katy on this one......the patches can give you crazy dreams, and the first week or so of wearing them 24hrs/day I was getting up several times in the night, whereas I wasn't before. I'm now sleeping thru (have been for a while) but still have weird dreams. I'm getting use to them now, and even looking forward to them, allows me a peek into my subconscious (scary as it is). I am also remembering them. When I was a smoker, I knew I had a freaky dream, but 5 minutes out of bed, couldn't tell you what it was about.... If you need to take the patch off at night, go ahead. But as Katy said, stopping smoking can cause sleeping disorders for a while as well.......your body gets more oxygen, less crap! I too decided to use a patch because I was fearful I wouldn't be strong enough to go cold turkey. So..........if this is somehow your barrier against smoking, I wouldn't give them up entirely. Perhaps you need to revisit the strength of patch? Anyway.......just DON'T START SMOKING! Hang in there........you can do this! ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/19/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 33 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 500 Amount Saved: $222.75 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 0 Mins: 18 Seconds: 33

Sorry.......
but mainly just have that feeling that I have lost my best friend.
Let me run that by again! Lost what? I hate seeing the words "giving up"......it implies that we are giving up something precious.......giving up what! Lung cancer Dogbreath Holes in clothes Emphysema COPD No money No self respect.............. The "empty" feeling is the body saying fed me my drug, make me dependent again..................it sucks for a few days......and then you start feeling a bit better.....suddenly you notice you can smell things again.............suddenly you can breathe better.....suddenly you are an ex smoker, a stopped smoker. You can do this..............and you know that you can. Keep posting right through the weekend........lots of us continue to log on when we can....so take it out on us....but don't smoke! SoccerMom, I didn't use the patch to quit but I did take Wellbutrin and chew the nicotine gum. The combination of those two, plus all the wonderful support I received on this site made quitting one of the easiest things I have ever done! Amazing, isn't it!? I started out using the nicotrol inhalers and that lasted about a week or two...then I switched to the gum because I felt like I was still smoking even though it wasn't technically "smoking". Anyway, after one day of chewing the gum, I felt like a non-smoker. The inhaler made it too similar to smoking. Anyway, what I'm getting at is, no matter what the method you use, you have to spend as much time on this site as you can during the first few weeks. If not for the awesome people here, I know my quit would not have lasted as long as it has. The anger, sadness, etc. that I felt during my first (failed) quit didn't come this time because of the people here, plus the wellbutrin and gum. Good luck, post often, punch the pillow, whatever you must...just DO NOT SMOKE! Keep us posted. You should post in the weekend pledge post if you haven't already. It helps to make yourself accountable to yourself on here. Worked for me anyway. N.O.P.E.
