Update

Fantastic News! Please pass on a hearty congratulations from me AND from my family.....My son gave up chew four years ago this April 5....he had quite a struggle in quitting and in maintaining for his first year. I know that smokeless is harder to quit than cigarettes....quitters need to realize they are certainly worthy of rewards in winning this battle. Be sure to pass on to your manager that "rewards" are a big part of quitting. and congratulations to BOTH of you Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1467 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 58,715 Amount Saved: $8068.5 Life Gained: Days: 191 Hrs: 11 Mins: 11 Seconds: 50

Question?

I agree with all these comments....and it's highly unlikely that you are going to continue to 'enjoy' the smell of the smoke......fresh smoke will hold an allure longer than the stink of stale smoke. I could smell that stale smoke in a week or so of quitting and thought it was awful. I about ran myself ragged trying to purge it from my car cause that was where it was the worst. Our home was nasty also....and it took a lot of cleaning, painting, etc. to rid it of that smell. Boy were we stupid.....for years we were stupid. LOL and I only 'thought' I loved to smoke...what I loved was being able to shut up that junky inside me!! When I finally got over it all I loved being quit! katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1468 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 58,732 Amount Saved: $8074 Life Gained: Days: 191 Hrs: 12 Mins: 26 Seconds: 51

Tough day

Try avoiding those places where the cigs are SOOO handy....especially when you are thinking on it. Keep plans in place....always have a plan that precludes getting smokes in hand. Hello Seabug22 !!!

seabug22 1/11/2006 12:13 AM Posts: 1 Joined: 1/10/2006 251067 Hi Everyone! I'm a seabee wife DESPERATLY trying to quit smoking and DEPERATLY needing some support in doing it.I'm 24, and we are stationed in mississippi. Military, and my 16 month old daughter aren't making it too easy, but I can deal with them,Psychotic friend next door ,That's making it ALOT tougher. So I decided to find support instead of trying to continue on my own. My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 60 Amount Saved: $8.25 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 4 Mins: 51 Seconds: 56 Dragged from the midst of a three page thread....I thought you would be seen better as a new member with your own thread :) Congratulations on your decision to quit! Katy you had an answer from this member kleokatra 1/11/2006 12:27 AM Posts: 20 Joined: 1/6/2006 251070 seabug First, congratulations on your quit! I hope you find the support here that I have since I started my journey. Just remember, when you feel the urge (i work with kids, all...day...long, I understand what it can be like), try and breathe, try and clear your head, eat celery, go for a walk, post here, anything, just keep strong, and we'll be here for you. help, ive started back up

have you worked through the quit program to the left? You need a "plan" of attack. Keep posting and keep reading....you can't have too much information about quitting......and don't think that because you are still smoking you are failing.....you only fail when you give up.....stick right in here....you CAN do this Now for your lecture LOL you aren't quit if you are smoking....plain and simple....bumming is still smoking. You have to say a big fat NO to the crave. Quit hanging around people who are smoking....that's a sure way to sabotage your own quit. Make the CHOICE to not smoke..tell your friends to not bum you smokes....then stay away from where they are smoking for the present. You must realise that you are an addict....and as such there is NO bargaining with the addiction. you can't have a puff here or a smoke there and still quit.....it's all or nothing. The fact that you haven't bought cigs means nothing....you are still smoking. you only quit buying....and believe me, that won't last for long. This addiction is powerful and you have to "commit" to quit. hang tough....it can be done.....we are all here as proof Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1468 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 58,733 Amount Saved: $8074 Life Gained: Days: 191 Hrs: 12 Mins: 31 Seconds: 59

Love the quit but really miss it

You need to dwell on the good about NOT smoking and quit with the thinking about how you enjoyed it! See smoking for what it is....it's dirty, disgusting and deadly.....the reason you felt "enjoyment" is because you were feeding that addiction and when you did....it purred. It is still there.....begging in this subtle way....trying to get you to think how much you "miss" it. It was killing you....get your mind around the truth of it....and then kick that thinking square in the butt! katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1468 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 58,753 Amount Saved: $8074 Life Gained: Days: 191 Hrs: 14 Mins: 10 Seconds: 33

Emotional Melt Down or Break Through?

you need to find ways to distract your thinking when the cravings come on like this. Just sitting and letting them take over is miserable....don't allow that....get up and do something to get your mind headed in another direction. and it WILL get easier.....and you can hurry that process by making plans of how to handle cravings. Keep reading and keep posting.....this is exactly what this site is for. Somewhere for you to come when things get tough things will get better....I promise.....(((hugs))) katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1468 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 58,753 Amount Saved: $8074 Life Gained: Days: 191 Hrs: 14 Mins: 8 Seconds: 52

Advice please?

my honest advice??? quit subjecting your baby quit to these circumstances. a quit is like a newborn infant....it's YOUR responsibility to keep it alive and safe.....would you place a newborn in a situation where it was likely to be killed??? of course you wouldn't.....well, do the same for yourself! and believe me....this quitting business IS a matter of life or death The choice is yours....just how badly do you want to NOT smoke??? It has to be badly enough to do whatever keeps you on track. You pose the question and the answer is clear as glass.....how bad to you want this quit? Act accordingly Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1468 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 58,753 Amount Saved: $8074 Life Gained: Days: 191 Hrs: 14 Mins: 8 Seconds: 24

Got a craving!!

you have encountered a situation that you previously handled by lighting up. Welcome to quitting 101. and the smokers seeming cheeky??? well, YOU after all, are showing them up with your quitting....they realize it takes guts and determination and their addiction is pounding away at them, trying to make sure that "they" get no ideas about quitting. hang tough....it's YOUR quit...no one elses.....just give yourself plenty of room for the time being....soak in the tub....curl up with a book...drink lots of fluids....take walks if you can. I assure you, the people around you who smoke are "watching" you. Show 'em a winner. You are doing great! Just stay in control!
