new to the group

STart keeping a journal of when and why you light up. It's can be quite revealing. Then design plans that could keep you from lighting up in those situations. Or even make plans to "change" your routine and avoid those situations. Work through the online quit program on the left. Read all you can about nicotine addiction, withdrawal, side effects, etc. You can't know too much about what you are up against. Consider the various ways of quitting....cold turkey, using nicotine replacement therapy, taking zyban/welbutrin. Talking to a doctor who understands nicotine withdrawal can be beneficial also. A support group you have found here, but a real time support group could be helpful also. REalize that non smokers, and friends and family who still smoke are likely to not be long term supporters...sometimes smokers are resentful of a quitter and would actually like to see them fail. Remember that quitting is a very "personal" journey. You do it FOR yourself and mostly BY yourself. It has to be a free will choice....you have to want to stop more than you want to smoke. and then you throw them away and you refuse to light up no matter what!! Visit this place daily and ask any questions that come to mind Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1482 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 59,305 Amount Saved: $8151 Life Gained: Days: 193 Hrs: 9 Mins: 20 Seconds: 5

HAVE I LOST IT OR WHAT

it's just the junky calling. practice distract and delay.....the first couple of weeks are nasty, but they WILL pass....just don't light up...remember that be saying no....YOU are in control. smack the demon off your shoulder and kick him in the ash!! don't forget rewards!!! Not getting support from my husband :(

Denisey......it WILL get better....the quit will at least.....and with this power you gain by overcoming in this area is going to come a strength from within yourself that you are just discovering. You are going to 'look' at things now, instead of just turning your back and lighting up. It's good, but give yourself time to adapt to it. for a while after I quit, I was like a mad woman...I would go on tirades and when I would run down, I would wonder WHAT was that all about LOL It took me a while to figure out how to handle all my new "forthrightness" :} My observation would be that your hubby is a terrified, nicotine addict.....and now he is faced with YOU conquering the very addiction that has hold of him. Even if he is butt....give him some room (and in doing this, take some for yourSELF) Be true to taking care of your quit right now. Don't make any hasty or rash decisions. and remember that even if that hubby IS an ass????? He is "watching" you fight this demon. show him a quitter with class!! help

oh...BIG junkie talk......ask yourself how smoking could possibly help ANY of the things you listed? I can tell you that it will ADD to the stress already on your plate.....cause WITH it you have to take the time to always satisfy that junky. You are young to quitting and you would be having these questions no matter what was going on around you.....don't be fooled by the addiction that smoking is going to HELP this situation. You just hang tough.....this is a 'tie and knot and hang on' time. Come here for a daily dose of support and hugs.....when it closes in on you, imagine all of us there....reaching out and supporting you....cause we are. (((((hugs))))) Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1479 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 59,175 Amount Saved: $8134.5 Life Gained: Days: 192 Hrs: 23 Mins: 6 Seconds: 52

slipped and get motivated

begin now, focusing on what you already know....that you lived well withOUT smoking! If you will make lists, there is NOTHING positive about smoking and EVERYTHING positive about quitting. You may quit and you may maintain a quit for even a long period of time, but you have got to let go of that junky thinking that smoking somehow improves your life....that thought is a big fat lie. Are we outspoken...yes we are....it's cause you have got to see the truth.....but at the same time I seem to lecture, my hand is reaching out for yours to pull you into this fold of safety and support. You CAN do this and you can change your thinking about it also......so be prepared to make this site your home. there are no stupid questions and there is always an ear for whatEVER is bugging you. Speak right up.....everyone is here to help Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1478 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 59,137 Amount Saved: $8129 Life Gained: Days: 192 Hrs: 20 Mins: 11 Seconds: 39

A Word on Herbal Alternatives to Chewing Tobacco

it's just my humble opinion that the vast majority of chewers are guys....and guys as a rule don't post on sights like this as freely as women do. My son used the herbal, he also took lots of support from his family to beat the monster..he didn't have an easy time of it....of all of us, he easily had the hardest time..but he would no more admit that than he would post on a forum. I don't particularly understand that, but that's the way the men of this family are LOL He seemed at times embarrassed by the fact that he needed help with beating the addiction and I think that is just a natural male ego thing....our men...our protectors and providers, don't want to admit to feeling weak in the face of this addiction. and this of course leaves the few who do use the site feeling a bit on the lonesome side. I realize that quitting the smokeless is a daunting task....I think you receive a much larger slam of nicotine from chew than you do from smoking a cigarette. I really commend any guy who is able to give that up....My hopes are that you all just come on up into the other forums and join us....we are all after the same goal in the end.....so fight on!
