Hi everyone,
I made it another day. I had 3 2mg lozenges today. I am starting to crave the lozenges instead of cigs. I've had a problem with nrt in the past. I was on nrt for a solid year, then relapsed for 3 weeks when my mom died, and now I am back on nrt. So, for that year, I never really was free from nicotine addiction. I want to be free and feel normal and comfortable. So, I cut down from 4mg lozenges to 2mg. And I used to do 4-5 a day. Now I do 2-3 (and chew on straws in between!) I am not going to worry about when i stop the nrt. It will only stress me out. But, I do have a goal, (I think goals are important) to cut down to only 2 a day for two weeks, then one a day for a week, and be off nrt when this box of lozenges is gone. I have to take the next step and face this quit without any nrt...enough is enough, huh? Everyone gave me such good advice and insight..I thank everyone of you by name. I'm through with hell week. YIPEE!!

Rainne,
Congratulations on your most important decision to quit smoking. Right now, you are young and vibrant. Please realize the importance of getting nicotine out of your life now; while you are young. The longer you smoke, the bigger a hold this addiction will have on you...not to mention the wrinkles around your mouth, the dull skin tone, the yellow teeth, the smelly hair, and glamorous hacking cough! Get it out of your life NOW. Great job on a whole 24 hours smoke free..see, you can do it!

Take it easy today, mama. Take a long nap if you can. Eat your favorite food and take a long hot bath. You can do it!

I have this restless, empty feeling that lives with me now that I have quit smoking. I try and satisfy it with food sometimes. It doesn't go away. I try and satisfy it by chewing on a straw, but, it doesn't go away. I suck on hard candies, chew gum, eat breath mints, but, so help me, that feeling won't go away. It goes away when I can finally take a tylenol pm and go to sleep. If I have to live with this feeling for 60, 70, 80 more days; I don't know if I can hang on. I want to be a non smoker that doesn't crave or think about cigs all the flipping time. I need something to let up for a while.

Hi everyone,
Another smoke free day! I am going to work, so I will have something to keep my mind occupied most of the day. I appreciate all the concern and rejoice in the fact that it will get better. It is a low grade gnawing in the pit of my stomach..something is missing, something is missing. It is like an itch that can not be scratched! Well, off to work. Thanks everyone for the encouragement. I am vowing to stay positive today about not smoking. It is a WONDERFUL thing, not something that should be yearned for or missed.

I had to move some furniture today. The pick up truck driver was smoking. I didn't bum one from him. I was at a memorial day bbq. Out of the 9 people at the bbq, 7 of them smoked! I had a few little cravings, but my attitude saved me from smoking. I watched those smokers, (they all sat at a table together; the other non smoker and I sat at a different table with one of the smokers); they were drinking beer and smoking one cigarette after another. Sometimes it wasn't even 5 minutes apart. I remember those days; when nicotine had such a hold on me that I fed my cravings one after another after another. In the past, I would have given in and had "just one"; oh, okay, just 2...3..4..5. But, today was different. It was apparent to me that I was physically craving some nicotine from time to time; but smoking was not an option. It was totally a mental decison not to smoke. I finally feel that I might be in control of this. I felt soooo good when I got home today and had not smoked one cig! Plus, the past few days at work I only had 2, 2mg lozenges; and today, since I was off all day, I only had 3. That is great for me. Just wanted to share my good feelings.

Hi Babs,
NOthing is being taken away from you, dear. You are rejecting those junkie thoughts that want to keep you a slave to nicotine. You are giving up the increased chance of lung cancer, heart disease, emphysema, bronchitis, and early death. You are giving up smelling like an ashtray, (your hair, your clothes, your breath). You are giving up high blood pressure and lack of oxygen to your brain! I know that you are having a BAD time right now. But, slowly try and turn your attitude around to be positive and so thankful that you are not a slave to nicotine any longer. Freedom from nicotine is wonderful. You can do it!

Thank you everyone. I am depressed today and thinking about smoking. I really don't want to smoke; but I can't quit flipping thinking about it. It is exhausting to think about it soooo many hours of the day. I am going to go swimming and lie in the sun for a while and read...relax a bit. Back to work tomorrow. When I am at work, my thoughts don't turn to cigs quite as often. The days off are harder for me. Everyone have a fabulous smoke free day.
