The first road trip is difficult. But, you will spend alot more time talking with your child instead of being lost in your own head feeding the addiction. You can play some of the road trip games with the kid, (I spy, the alphabet game) sing songs, dance in your seats, or have the child read a book to you. I like chewing on straws. When you arrive you can spend alot to time with your parents. The smoking sisters will be a big challenge. I would stay away from bars or drinking in excess with your sisters. Sit outside and visit with them. If the cravings come DISTRACT, DELAY, LEAVE THE SITUATION, and go inside and be with your parents. Have a wonderful smoke free vacation. I just returned from a vacation and I am so proud that I did not have one puff. You can do it. You will be proud also. Have fun!

I am sure that people who don't smoke and get emphysema are the "exception". Of course, it can happen. But, the biggest cause of emphysema and bronchitis is SMOKING. Just go to any medical website. It will confirm this information. Emphysema is permanent damage to the lungs. Although after quitting the lungs can clean themselves out and come back to pink and healthy again, the damage already done from emphysema cannot be reversed. I would "guess" that Johnny Carson already had the beginning stages of emphysema and that is why he finally quit. Quitting will slow the progress of emphysema immensely. He may have died 5,6,7 years earlier if he had not quit.

I have been gone for 8 days with my kids and my ex,who smokes marlboro reds, visiting grandparents in Northern Illinois. I am sooooooo proud to say that i did not have ONE PUFF! We went to Lake Michigan, (laying on the beach was usually a big trigger), we went to little neighborhood bars, (usually a huge trigger), we cooked out at g & g's and sat under the gigantic weeping willow tree relaxing. I DID NOT SMOKE! I still do not feel totally normal without smoking. I have little nagging twinges here and there. But, by golly, it is getting better!
