Hi Meece,
You should read everyday about the dangers of smoking during pregnancy. Before I quit, I would read and read about the dangers of smoking at Whyquit.com; and, of course, read about the benefits of quitting. It will strengthen your resolve to stay quit; for you and your unborn child.
I have 4 children. I did not smoke for the first one, but i did smoke for the last three. 2 of them have slight breathing problems when they over exert themselves..the 3rd one was born 2 months premature (one of the negative affects directly related to smoking).
Thank god, he was alright and is now a healthy teenager, but HOW could I have put his life in danger like that? The only answer is drug addiction.. You can stop smoking...you can.

Hi everyone,
What a great site! I have smoked for 33 years and had many, many, attempts at quitting in my past. I have used every kind of NRT that is made, at least twice, plus I've gone to nicotine anonymous meetings at 2 different periods in my life. I am on day 2. I sucked on the 2mg nic lozenges today at work, but I am going cold turkey while at home this evening. I have always used NRT in my past failed attempts, and am wondering if the NRT just keeps me craving. My last quit, I used NRT for over a year. I went from the patch, to the gum, to the lozenges. Then my mother passed away, I bought a couple packs, smoked about ten a day and now I am getting it under control to stay quit. I haven't had one puff for two days. I can't go back to that life. I have shortness of breath and cough terribly when i smoke. I know that all of you have gone through this quitting process, and you have my utmost respect. I will be around.

Hi jnine,
How long have you been smoking since your 3 year quit? Well, whatever, I know the quitting merry go round. Although, I have never made it three years. You should be proud of that. You can do it again. Hang in.

welcome,
i am new also. I have also noticed in just 2 days that my skin looks better! It is amazing. smoking is not worth the price, in any way. We have made a great decision. I would love to visit Italy sometime. My daughter was there and she absolutely loved it. Stay free!

good for you, na. Don't quit quitting. You have the desire. It shows by you starting again so soon. Meditation certainly will help you keep the peace during some of the more stressful cravings!

even the hubby's cig butts are a temptation if the craving hits. Help him understand the importance of keeping the cigs out of sight and wetting the butts or throwing them somewhere that you will not get to them if the junkie starts yelling. I've gone through trash looking for my hubby's cigs butts before...it is disgusting; but showed me just how strong this addiction can be. Addicts can be sneaky people. We can fool people. Recovery comes when we are honest with ourselves and stay away from our addictive substance no matter what. You know you can do it, because you've done it for 23 days... go for the freedom

That is when you "leave the situation". You have overcome a big obstacle. Knowing when to leave social situations where smokers are present is a very important coping skill. You learned it...good job
