To Do Lists

To do lists are and wonderful tool to get things done but as everything in life has its advantages and disadvantages. In my particular case I found useful to put some tasks on the to do lists but leave others to do as I remember them.

For me it is depressing to have long term goals (1 year, 5 years, etc) because I do not like to have my life so planned and I feel like I am in a prison.

Right now I am also working on the treatment goals. I consider a treatment goal something that it takes more than 1 day to complete.

In this way, I put in my daily to do list the following tasks:
1. daily goals
2. activities from the long term goals

There isn't the ideal method and the important thing is not to be exhaustive and give the creative side of ourselves to do its part.

Challenging Social Anxiety

Hello Ashley. Being with other people is so important. Yesterday I was with a friend of mine that I did not see for months and catch up some talking. It was so good for me because at the time I forgot my anxiety. I guess I have to plan more time to be with other people.

You referred communication skills and their importance to challenge social anxiety. What do you recommend to improve our communication skills?

To Do Lists

I forgot to mention that I am putting in practice what Ashley suggested:
"Another thing to consider is to put leisure activities or family/friends time in your to do list. "

When I plan such activities most of the time I forgot my anxiety.

Good tip Ashley. Keep the good work.

Mountain Biking

Since my nervous breakdown I am not working but fortunately I enrolled in master degree program to keep my mind busy. Besides that, I still have plenty of time available and nothing better than getting busy with some hobbies. The picture you see on my profile was taken in one organized mountain bike ride this month. There were about 50 participants and it was an wonderful morning doing a sport and talking with other people. I will repeat more often this experience.

5th Therapy Session - My Experience

This post is the 5th one dedicated to express what I am learning from each therapy session

Today I had my 5th therapy session and just before the appointment I visited a local bookstore where I bought some books. Reading is a hobby of mine and going to good bookstore it is a pleasant experience for me. After bought the books I went to therapist and start the session. I have to say that this session was the worst session with my new therapist. As on the last week I will write the Pros and Cons of this session:

Pros: We start discussing the importance of having social relationships and questioning our thoughts. We analyzed my behavior when I was younger and detected that when I was put in stressful situations I would ended very anxious because of my perfectionism and trying to control the situation. This emotions started when I was very young (2-3 years old) and are still present in my life (I am 37 years old).

Cons: My therapist presented me some CBT techniques but didn't show me how to put it in practice. Until the 4th session I got out from each therapy session feeling the benefits of the sessions, which didn't happened on this session.

I would like to hear if any member is using a daily planner, and how one can use the daily planner for stress relieve.

5th Therapy Session - My Experience

I didn't have expressed the disappointment with him. My sessions would be more satisfying if I know the goals for each session. On the initial sessions my therapist said that the treatment would be divided in 3 parts: 1) getting to know who I am and the way I think 2) develop interpersonal relationships, hobbies and other activities 3) start diminishing meds and monitoring the symptoms associates with it.

I thought that therapy would be more organized, and now I realize that it is not. Right now we are on the 1st part and my therapist already talked about CBT techniques without giving me or explaining the tools to work with it. If it weren't for this program I didn't understand what he was talking about.

5th Therapy Session - My Experience

Thank you Davit for your feedback. I am so perfectionist and in need to control everything that I do not give me any time to relax.

One of the main problems with therapy is that it is expensive ( I am unemployed right now), and I would like for each session to be effective, if not I am losing my hard won money and economies.

If you couldn´t fail? - Getting to know Members

Hello Ashley. If I couldn't fail I would attempt to find a job in a good company and start building a career again. Because of my mood swings I have lost 3 good jobs in the past.
