Thanks for the welcome. My name just means that I am personally convicted of smoking : ) :)

I want to quit because I realized that this is just another stronghold on my life that I want to over come. And I think that I will gain a lot of healing from it. Also I am always embarrassed in public, especially at work. I will talk to a co-worker about Jesus, and then I will go out and smoke. That is not a good message to a non-believer! So I feel like a hypocrite. I've been smoking about 4 or 5 a day I am using patches. I still have not set a date yet, I'm not sure if it's best to set a date or just do it spontaneously. I think the anticipation of that date will just drive me crazy. But one thing I do know is I need to work on my method. I need to figure a good way of keeping myself busy. I was thinking of learning out to crochet : ) That will keep my hands busy. :confuse:

How this is so awesome! I just signed up today and was thinking to myself I hope there are Christians on this, and low and behold this was the first discussion group that caught my eye! I am still in the cutting back stage of smoking, I have only had two today and it's almost 4pm. Comparred to a pack a day I think I'm doing pretty good. I have tried this 3 times, and it is definantly the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. I have overcome some major stuff in my life but this doesn't compare. I love the idea of turning to the Bible every time I have the urge, that is a great idea! I've been praying and praying but it is not at all getting easier. But it will I know because our Lord is ALWAYS faithfull. Any way thank you Mercy for starting this discussion group, I think I will really like this! :)

Thanks Mercy. What I find funny is that this discussion group is the most looked at and replied to. That is so awesome! I am really trying to put the armor on, but I definantly am in a spiritual fight I can tell. : ( Since I decided last Saturday that I want to do this I have been attacked from all sides! But I will pull out some way or another. :confuse:

I cannot whip the nicdemon without His help.... 1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say [b] of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." 3 Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence. Psalm 91 4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. 5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. 7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8 You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. 9 If you make the Most High your dwelling even the LORD, who is my refuge- 10 then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. 11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; 12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. 13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. 14 "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. 15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. 16 With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation." Mercy, I don't know if SSC has a position on this or not, but I do. I fully intend to use prayer, and anything else that makes sense to me, as a quit-smoking aid. :) One of the reasons I'm quitting is because I've come to understand just how precious life is, what a gift it is, and I want to honor that. I also want to experience my earthly existance for a while yet. Smoke-free.

I think this topic is a great idea! I know that I am not doing this alone. The following scripture is one that I thought about a lot when I was smoking and it made me feel very guilty! 1 Corinthians 6:19-20: "Or don't you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself. For God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body." This gives me strength because I know I'm doing the right thing.
