Bingo,
After what I went through tonight with a horrendous mid-40s crave that started from work stress, I am so glad to hear that there is another response out there waiting for me. Thanks so much for the incentive to keep going, and congratulations on keeping your quit going to a place like that!

Don't worry about your past failures. It happens to most of us. Your non-smoking future looks great!!! Glad you're here, stick around, the people on this board are terrific support. They got me through a month. Just shout out if you need help. And shout out before you pick one of those killers up.
BTW, most libraries these days have internet connections. That might help you to log on Saturday if you need to.

Hi Marie,
I'm only a month smoke-free, but already I'm seeing how it could be easy to get a little careless, a little cocky, and then you slip. It's harder to keep your vigilance up because its easier.
So just park it right here on this board, and you had better give one of us a shout before you light up again. That's all. Just yell for someone. You know we're all here rooting for you.

With regard to school exams, etc: Frances, there is never a good time to quit, but there is always a great time to quit, and that time is right now!
Congratulations! Freedom is so wonderful once you get used to it. Just stick close to the board for the next few days while your body readjusts.
Frankly, my quit is the most valuable thing in my life right now. My quit is what allows me to keep everything else. Without my quit, I die, and I lose it all.

During my first 3 weeks, I was rewarding myself every night when I went to bed by giving myself a little mental pat on the back, and just congratulating myself on being a non-smoker all day. Sometimes I had to make myself smile about that, but I did.
And, while the next thing isn't exactly a reward, it does fall under the general heading of motivation: I have created, in my mind, an image of myself as who I want to be as a non-smoker. You know, handsome, sexy, a bon vivant with a bit of an edge and no cigarette in his fingers.
Every day that I don't smoke, I bring myself closer to that image, and that is kind of a reward, too.

At 2:37 pm I hit 40 days. Never thought I'd get here. Frankly, I never thought I'd make it to middle age, either, but here I am.
Daggone. Life is really, really sweet, sometimes.
