Frances- Congratulations on being a non-smoker! So happy to have you join us! By now you're almost done with Day#2 - you really are doing this and really are going to make it. It's not fun, but it can be done. Bring lots of sugarless gum & candy to work - pop one in if you get a craving. Keep posting - we're all here for you! Congratulations on getting through Day 1. That IS a huge success. Frances, I had to go Cold Turkey but I do believe that I've read that you should not wear the patches in bed. I know someone who has worn them will hop in and tell you for sure though. Any of those triggers that you can't avoid tomorrow, change them up some. Like, rearrange your desk, put out new pictures of your family and/or pets, sit a candy jar on top filled with hard candy, sit a nice candle to burn all day long, etc. The Hazelnut candles are great, cheap, and at Wal-Mart. LOL Change anything you can. (I'm not talking about co-workers....It would be fun to spray paint 'em though, huh?) When your co-workers step out, spray air freshener around the office to help out with the smoke smell. You can even take some perfume that you no longer use and spray it in the bottom of your trash can at your desk. You can really smell that over the smoke smell. Drink lots and lots of water while you're at work. It really helps with those cravings and withdrawal symptoms PLUS, it flushes the poison out of your system. Tell us more triggers at work so we can make suggestions. Okay? Rest a lot today. You deserve it. I made it through day one. I was able to take the day off work today which is great because there are too many triggers (stress, other smokers). I will cope with that tommorow. Is it bad to wear the patches in bed?? Frances, Some quitters will experience increased blood pressure as a result of using the patch which is why we always recommend consulting with your doctor or pharmacist before starting any type of NRT regiment. Glad your first day is going well. Keep persevering! Danielle ________________________ The SSC Support Team

Hi Frances, Welcome! One hour at a time on your first day is great! I was 5 minutes at a time on my first day! As long as you recognize your triggers, you can overcome them. Stick around! hi everyone and thanks for all the support and encouragement. So far, so good. I put on the patch this morning. Had to stop watching a movie on tv this afternoon because they were smoking. That is a major trigger for me (seeing someone smoking). I also took a nap and had the strangest dreams...I was kind of weirded out when I woke up until I remembered this is a side effect of the patch. Does anyone else have the experience of increased blood pressure with the patches? My doctor is monitoring and we've decided that the short term risk is worth it - I'm also very salt sensitive in regards to this issue so one of the strategies is to go on an ultra low sodium diet for a few weeks. With my lungs more clear I should also be able to start swimming in about a week which helps with the blood pressure problem as well. It's unreal how long the day seems at first. One hour at a time...
