Hi Tutti, I didn't mean to drop out. Just got busy, and a lot of my energy was locked up getting the diet thing in gear.
Basically, it's a very restricted diet: nothing but fresh fruits, fresh veggies, rice, baked/broiled red meat, white meat, or fish. No condiments, sauces, spices, milk, cheese, yogurt, bread, pasta, fun.
On top of that there's a shake and about a zillion vitamin pills to take with every meal.
Then there's the part you'll really like. You're supposed to drink tons of water.
Anyone who is practiced at saying no to nic can handle this. I'll keep you guys up to date on my response.

ICE water? Good Lord, woman, I'm not that desperate. I like my water room temperature, thank you. Stirred, not shaken.
Anyway, so I'm having my morning tea, and I load up SSC to see who's beating up the demon today, and all of a sudden I get full-on ashtray mouth.
You guys remember ashtray mouth, don't you. That smell and taste in your mouth the morning after smoking the night before?
Yech. I still have it as I right this. Weird.
Have a wonderfully smoke-free day everyone. Don't get ashtray mouth. Blech.

Absolutely thought-provoking.
I like Jean's answer -- I reached my goal the day I quit.
Maybe I should look at maintaining it not so much as a struggle as an interesting challenge, one that I know I can win because I've already won so many times.

Yeah, scary quiet, isn't it? I don't think I've seen a post from niks since he/she started this thread...rtchick, kygirl, janie, all missing. You have to wonder, who is doing just dandy and doesn't need SSC anymore, and who has fallen along the way. I kinda think it's mostly fallen soldiers behind us, given the odds against us.
Sorry. Tired and morbid tonight.

Hi Chops,
Just wanted to let you know that many of us have tried multiple times to quit and completely blown it. I alone know more than 16 seperate and distinct ways to completely screw up a good quit.
Here's the thing of it. You can fail 100 times, but you only need to succeed once. So the key to succeeding at this is to just keep at it. Try again. This quit might be the one...

Good job, Rose!!
I had the same concern on a recent trip, sitting in my hotel room and smoking like there was no tommorrow. Instead, I fired up the laptop, plugged in the network, and came to SSC.
Look at all those successes just from one little trip...

Here's an interesting one...
Got a day off today. I took a walk in the woods and saw a lighter on the ground. At first I thought, that's pretty scummy, trashing up the woods like that. Then I looked again. I recognized that lighter. It was mine in December, when I was walking through this same woods. I was trying to quit, and in a blind fury at myself and my addiction, I heaved my pack of cigs and my lighter out into the woods (that quit lasted a week). Spring comes, snow melts, and there's my old lighter, waiting for me.
I guess I'm still walking the same path, just a little further along.
