DAWN: Wow! What NewPapa said was perfect -- all I can say is "ditto" and that sounds so very lame.
But please re-read his post -- he's 100% -- no, 1000% -- right and you know that!
Do not mix up your anger with your husband and his so-called quit with yours. You MUST separate the two. Show yourself you're stronger than him -- he caved. You don't have to.
Hold onto this -- I guarantee you that if you smoke tonight, you will feel a whole lot WORSE than you do right now. It will have solved nothing and you will be so angry at yourself.
So why go there? Hang tough -- you're a lot stronger than you think.
Take NewPapa's hand, my hand, and any hand you can grab.
Keep the faith -- and your quit!

To NewPapa: I have my granddaughter over tonight and I'm about to put her to bed -- she sleeps in the room with my computer.
I'll be unable to get back on the computer until morning (I'm west coast), so PLEASE, if you can, hang with Dawn.
Your post to her was awesome -- you only have the four days and I know it's been tough for you, but that "kick in the rump" that Dawn begged for was right on! Bless you.
Keep the faith and both of your quits, ok?
I'll check in again in the morning.
You can do this, Dawn! Hang tough!

Wow -- Dawn, what a revelation you had, thanks to NewPapa's words. I'm so happy that happened for you.
I feel better about you getting through the night now.
What an amazing story -- "there but for the grace of God....".
Deep breaths and a long, hot shower. That's the ticket.
Keep the faith

Ha! Interesting, you crack me up!
You continue to come up with "interesting" (hence the name, I imagine) new ways to look at your quit and the addiction. By viewing it in such different ways, I think you're really helping yourself stay motivated and busy.
I can't wait to read your report on the nasty little cigarette icons. Count 'em, time 'em, and let us know.
Good luck.
Keep the faith

Freedom:
Hurray for you and your two! Only fellow quitters can fully appreciate your excitement -- that's why you need to stay with us.
The 2 becomes 3 becomes 4, then 5, then a week, then a month. It all adds up and faster than you realize.
Wait until you suddenly realize you have gone an entire day and didn't even think about smoking. Wow -- now that's a reward! And it's coming your way.
Congratulations!
Keep the faith -- and the quit.

Terrific post, Rusty.
You're absolutely right -- quitting is tough. We do make it harder than it needs to be, though, don't we?
There's actually a simplicity to this that has (finally) resonated with me. If you want to quit smoking, then DON'T SMOKE!
So that's what I'm doing -- not smoking. Wow! It feels so good!
NOPE -- Not One Puff Ever

Kimmy: Here's where you must give yourself credit -- you had ONE PUFF and realized how awful it tasted and tossed it away.
Isn't that tremendous progress, really?? You saw it for what it was and immediately went back to protecting your quit.
I have to agree with everyone else about your husband's quit. You have enough on your plate with your own decision to quit -- don't burden yourself with his. Only he can take that responsibility.
You are doing very, very well.
Keep the faith -- and the quit!
