Hello odaat, Sorry for your loss, Iam sure your cuz was a good person. You loss was surly a bad one no doubt and my thoughts are with you. You must remember, she was an addict like all of us on this site. We to know what she went through. Perhaps not the alcohol, but certainly the nicotine addiction. It is just that, an addiction, like any other iddiction. The only difference is that she lost her fight with her iddiction and we all can learn a very important lesson form this tragedy. There is certainly meaning to her death. Perhaps we can take control of our addictions and we can all fight a little harder next time we feel like reaching for a cig or over induling on alcohol. Her death was certainly a tragedy, but it made us all stop and think about what we are doing and what direction we want our quits to go in. So, yes, there is "meaning". She made me think and I dont even know her. If we all take control of our situations and our lives in general, we will all succeed. But we have to continue to realize that it is an iddiction that we created and that we allowed it to control us. Now we have to turn the tables and we can do that by taking back our lives so this tragedy does not happen to us and our loved ones. So how do we do this? We learn about our iddictions weather it be nicotine or alcohol. We slowly learn how to curve our cravings until they are gone or until we can control them. We learn how to except our challengs and we learn that these iddiction can be contained or distroyed. We have to use all the tool that we can get our hands on and we MUST KEEP A POSITIVE ATTITUDE!!! We cant whine or become babys, we have to stay strong and alert. That means we have to change our life styles and even the people we keep company with if need be. This/these addictions that we created are lodged in our brains and only we can get rid of them. But we have to never stop trying and we have to fight it like no other fight we have ever been in. Along the way, it will get easier and eaiser unti one day, you will look back and say, " dam, I did it" So get to work people! Keep God in your hearts and in your thoughts also! Hello John, You bring up a good point. However, when I started my quit I went with the " quit smoking and loose weight" also. But soon found it very hard to take on both tasks. It seemed senseless to try and curve 2 bad habits at once. It got to the point that I didnt know witch one I wanted more. So I choose to quit first, it was a much more harder thing to do and I needed to concintrate all my energy on quitting smoking. I didnt put on much weight when I started my quit. Mainly because if I wanted to quit smoking, I needed to quit drinking beer. And when I quit drinking beer, the food cravings slowed down. I didnt do much excersing though, just walked when I wanted a smoke, especially after a meal. It wasent until after my 4th mounth that I started a weight loss program. So, it worked for me and my quit. However, as a health care provider, I have seen way more people die from cancer or illnesses directly related to smoking than I do from obesity. Not to say that obesity shoud be taken lightly, but I do believe that the results from smoking will kill you faster than obesity. Obesity will cause diabetes and yes, even heart failure. It will also cause strokes and a number of other illness including back problems. But some of these conditions are treatable and have a slower repercussion. Smoking on the other hand will be more aggressive in its nature even though some cancers are treatable. But the fact that smoking caused lung cancer and is a matastatic to many other organs is what makes this cancer so deadly and aggressive. Both will end up killing you, but ill take the obesity over lung cancer any day. Hey Mary! Its ok, do what you think is best for you. Your 66 days into a life time of happiness. Do what ever it takes. If you need to be miserable, go ahead, do your thing. Keep in mind that it wont be forever! I know about the nightmares, I was in one for over 20 years!! Then I quit! Love my life, love my family, love My God! So just be miserable, you owe it to yourself for what you did to yourself for so many years. Your on your way baby!! Keep up the good work and the lungs will reward you. Dont you people get it!!

I read these threads and sometimes I get crazy, mad, understanding and most times I get pi**ed! Some of you say, "im going to try to quit" "im scared" "i hope i can do it" " im not sure if i can". Please, please step back and look at yourselvs and your life. Think of what you have to lose by smoking and who you are hurting if not already hurt. Look at the consequences if your attitude is not superior. You have to put all your attention, your efforts, all your knowledge and all your will power to beat this thing. You cant have an attitude like " ill try to quit" " i hope this time i will do it" "im scared". Scared??? you have no idea what scared is. If you think your scared now to quit, wait till that doctor tells you that you have terminal lung cancer so get your afairs in order. Thats when you should be scared. Dont be scared to quit!! OMG! Get with it. This is a life or death situation people. You only have 2 choices, you either quit, or you die! There is no iron lung that is on the market that will save you and lung transplants dont work yet. So if you all want to live to see your kids grow up or to see your grand children grauate from school, i highly suggest you take a more positive attitude. If you start spitting blood, you might as well put your head between your legs and kiss your ash goodby. Cuz your time will be short and activities will be limited. So who ever reads this and is thinking about puffing or is too scared to quit, think of how you will tell your loved ones that you have lung cancer. Explain to them how you are coughing up blood and what it feels like. Tell them that you were to scared to quit and you were weak. Tell them that you are sorry, but you cant be with them any longer cuz you couldnt beat your addiction. Tell them how you gave up and you lost at the one most important thing that you couldnt do! Smarten up people! Keep your head right and concintrate on what you are doing and it probably wouldnt hurt to keep your God close to your heart and ask him to help you with this sever problem you have. Keep the faith!
