Roll Call! Who's on Board the Train?

So many names, so many quits in the last three months. I'd like to see everyone (lurkers too) just give a quick hello, with their quitmeters on, so any one new passing by can see the participation in this site. Maybe they'll want to join in! Maybe some folks who are considering quitting will check out the site a little more. C'mon everyone..say hello, howdy, g'day, whatever! Cold turkey or NRT that is a question

I quit cold turkey when I was in my early thirties..lasted for 2 years. My hubby and I quit together..he failed..then I failed. He quit later 1997 (for good..I've had more of a problem, but, as you can see by my quitmeter..I am on my way). I've tried using gum, patches, anything before..this time is cold turkey. I know this will work for me. Love y'all,,whatever gets you through the night..s'alright..s'alright (to q john lennon) My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/3/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 60 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,829 Amount Saved: $495 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 21 Mins: 45 Seconds: 19

woke up today & freed myself Cold Turkey

Hi Tony. Welcome and congratulations on your quit! I'm not as bad as my Dad was (he had a cigarette before he got out of bed in the morning)! Ah yes..the good old days! I switched to tea instead of coffee, and chew a really minty peice of sugarfree gum. Try something different.. your coffee black instead of with cream, whatever, just break the usual routine. I keep a bottle of water in the car, and sip that at every stoplight. Think of a different reward..a smartie if you're into chocolate..a handful of sunflower seeds, something yummie to satisfy that "I've worked hard now I deserve something" urge. Smile! Please try to figure out what happened with your relapses, and plan a strategy to avoid the same thing happening again. I will be back on Jan 1st.

Hi Tony! I've got a grandson named Cameron too, and he's one of the big reasons I quit, but the most important reason is for yourself. Buy or borrow Allen Carr's book, and start reading it. I will help you in your lead up to New Year's. (Well, at least it helped me, and I was hooked for over 38 years). Use all the tools you can, and please post again. All the best. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/3/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 63 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,903 Amount Saved: $519.75 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 5 Mins: 28 Seconds: 25

My First Ten Days on Zyban and Without Nicotine.

Way to go Tony! 165 pounds saved in 11 days! (Can you imagine telling your grandad that!) I don't understand how ANYONE in GB can afford to smoke! Canada's bad enough! Treat yourself to all the currys you want...I'm far enough away! I want my cigarettes back!!!

I started smoking at 15. I was always sure that I could quit anytime I wanted to, that I could smoke for just another couple of years, etc, etc. Well, now I'm 55 years old. My face is so wrinkled, you'd think I was 75. I am so glad I quit now, but beleive me, this is a very fragile quit. I have grandchildren now, and I don't want them to know me as a smoker. I don't want my body, my clothes, my house, my car to smell like tobacco smoke. I sooo wish I could turn back the clock, to where I was babysitting after school, and teaching myself how to smoke. Isn't that the stupidest thing? You have to TEACH yourself how to smoke. I remember the first time I craved a cigarette, in class. I remember thinking to myself...what have you done? When I see teens standing outside highschool and smoking..I want to stop my car..roll down the window and yell at them.."Do you want to look like me?" "Keep smoking!" In my heart of hearts I know they won't give a d**--they're young, nothing can happen to them..they'll always be beautiful, always in control. Please please try to get over this bad time. I'm still going through withdrawals, but I know that I will survive..I will come out on the other side. Who needs to stick rolled up peices of paper, stuffed with dried stuff, into their mouths and draw noxious smoke into their beautiful, pink, lungs? Not me! N.O.P.E. Please hold on to your quit Material Girl. You are worth it. Love yourself. FEAR

Liz..I was sooo like you, lit up as soon as I woke up..coffee and a smoke for breakfast (You don't want to know what my mother called me when I was eighteen (!) and that was forty five years ago). If my nose was bigger, I would have smoked in the shower! Bwaa Haaa...seriously folks..Liz I am so glad you found this site. Whenever you feel low, jonesin..no-one understands..especially non-smokers (doh!). Come here..read...write. Great people, great advice. "We're all pigrims on this road." to quote Steve Earle. I'm a newbee here...

Hi Jada..I'm a "mature" quitter as well..40yrs. I know how hard it is, but like everyone here says, the rewards are great. Find something to take you mind off it. I'm heavily into peppermint gum and sunflower seeds (in the shell..keeps your mouth busy). Reading the posts here keeps you sane. Keep it up girl, you can do it! Stronger than Sean Penn! Yah Hah!!Stronger than Jack Nicholson!! (trying to think of a female star that smokes...um..stronger than Marg Simpson's sisters!) Yahhh!!
