WoW..look at those numbers Katy. How proud I am of you. (and I don't even know you) I want to extend a special thanks to all the way-long-ago-ex-smokers who are still checking in here and offering oh so welcome advice. Inspiration..long, heavy pause...thank you.

The pleasure you seek from smoking right now is a chimera, a mirage. It does not exist. I know that feeling, so guilty, trying to acheive that sense of "normal" again. But, it's not 'normal' ...it tastes foul. It makes you dizzy, and sick to your stomach..you think..Is this what I thought I was missing?
Please just throw them away.
Start over.
You can do it.
There is no easy way.
You are such a brave person already.
Grief is hard. But, you are stronger.
Throw them away.

I can't remember the movie, but Robin Williams said to someone (god, isn't memory loss great) "You either smoke...or you don't smoke..make up your mind".
Or something to that effect. That's me..now..the 'don't" thing. That seems to work for me.

Sparky..you can so do this..if I can do this after 40 years..(God help me, what a fool) of smoking. So, by golly, can you. I know that you hear a lot of people struggling so hard after 2 weeks, 3 weeks, but I think you hear more from the people who also say..it gets easier..don't give up.
I can honestly say it's getting easier, and I was the type of smoker that would probably give up a limb rather than quit. Sounds brutal, but that's how addicted I was.
Rolling up dried leaves, setting them on fire, and sticking them in your mouth is a very silly thing to do. Picture a dog, or a cat, or a newborn baby (!) doing that.
I'm looking at smokers standing outside in the cold now, and feeling sorry for them.
I want to yell at the teenagers standing outside the high school, learning, teaching themselves how to do such a stupid, stupid thing.
I still have a long way to go, but this site helps. I have a mantra now, and it works!
NOPE! Not one puff ever!

What Phil said..
Pony..25 monkey 500
whistle & flute ..suit
trouble & strife..wife
pig's ear..beer
Just a little more triv..from a Dutchman's wife. "Yankee" is derived from "Jan Kees"..from New Amsterdam, i.e New York. Jan Kees was the
Dutch equivalent to "John Smith", or "Joe Blow"..average farmy bumpkin kind of guy.
They smoked those nasty little white clay pipes that they're still pulling out of the canals in Holland.
NOPE. Not one puff ever!

"summit and nowt" means 'something and nothing (quite appropriate I think for craving feelings.
"havin' the bottle"..well, I gueass that means having the b*lls to get through something..boy..we're doing that!
"walk down Lime Street"..The Beatles sang about 'Dirty Maggie May' a very old Liverpool ditty.
"All Fur coat and no knickers" ummm..knickers=underpants (!)
"Chuffed" = happy
"Barnet" =hair
"Slap"=makeup
"Innit" =isn't it
Please don't make me explain "meat an' two veg'! Phil.. I was born and bred in Canada ,eh? (but Granny was a Bernardo girl)
NOPE (Not One Puff Ever) ...we can all get that one!!

Hi Kathy..yes, your best friend DID die, and then you found out that he/she wasn't your best friend at all.
Cravings are a great time to vent. I would go outside and do what I call "the Mexican Hat Dance" ..kind of running on the spot with modified small jumping jacks. Worked for me! If you ever go by a hospital and see whitecoated doctors and scrub wearing nurses running on the spot..you know they're fighting the good fight too.
Ice cold spring water drunk through a straw is a saviour!
Find something that works to get over the crave and use it! Crave the quit! N.O.P.E. Not one puff ever!
