I can hardly believe this!!!

Thanks Ron, The call about my aunt's death was a shock and probably the toughest thing I've had to face since quitting... For the first time I had to deal with something really painful without my cigarettes... I did it. Hang on to your quit and thanks for the encouragement! Thanks Eve - I love the little bluepanda you have on your post - I don't know how to add images to post here. Gogga - you're doing so great - be sure to join the C.A.R.E. group if you haven't already. :)

I can hardly believe this!!!

Thanks to everyone for your support and well wishes. My sis called a little bit ago. Our aunt passed away at 3a.m. with pancreatic cancer. Yes, she was a smoker and the 4th on my dad's side of the family to die of smoking related disease. My dad died at 37 of a heart attack (chain smoker and wouldn't quit when he had pneumonia) Another aunt died eaten up with cancer in lungs and breast about five years ago and my uncle on my dad's side died of emphysemia a few years ago... Lots of incentive for me to remember why I have to hang onto this quit. I don't want my kids to watch me die of something I could have prevented. With news of my aunt's passing I'm not dancing like I was this a.m. but I know my aunt is celebrating my quit - I'd like to think she's in heaven dancing for me now. Thanks Lady & Ron - you've both been such a great inspiration and help these past two weeks and I appreciate it so much! For the Newbies!!!

Your words are very encouraging Funk0311... It's a little too soon in my quit for me to see much of the humor in my hell/heck weeks but I look forward to the day that I can look back and laugh at myself for all my angst over a nasty weed. As hard as it's been these past two weeks I know it was the best gift I've ever given myself and my family. I'm Quitting!

Wishing you the best on this journey Redhead! As someone else said here recently - every quit is different - but, just take it a day (or a minute) at a time and do whatever you have to do to keep from caving. It will get better, I promise!

Smoking Weight Gain

I guess it depends on the person but the good thing about quitting smoking is that when you quit you're instantly a nonsmoker. But, when you diet it can take weeks or months or even years to see the results that you want. Plus there are so many factors (besides overeating) that can contribute to gaining/losing weight that it's not always in our complete control - but quitting smoking is always in our control. Congrats on 91 days. I can't wait to get that far in my quit! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/3/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 14 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 287 Amount Saved: $56 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 14 Mins: 43 Seconds: 50

I can hardly believe this!!!

Thanks Shevie, To be honest I haven't rewarded myself for any of the milestones yet... I keep telling myself just quitting and making it stick is the reward but maybe I'll rethink that. I can hardly believe this!!!

I'm so excited! 7:45 a.m. this morning makes two whole weeks without a cigarette! WOW! I'm soooooooo happy I've been dancing around the house all morning! I can hardly believe I actually did it! :) If you're new here and just starting out with your quit please spend as much time as you can reading some of the post. There is truly a lot of wisdom on this site from people who have been where you are and are ready to share their struggles, to lift you up. I credit the SSC community for helping me to stay focused on my need to quit and for helping me find the way. Reading the post here (sometimes over and over) helped me in my darkest hours to see that others have been where I was and survived without giving in to the craves. I kept telling myself if all these great people could do it then maybe I could do it too... My first week was the hell that they warned me about... but, I survived and the nicodemon (gorilla) on my back is getting easier to manage every single day... The first 3 or 4 days were the battle of all battles. I cried for no reason, I got angry with the whole world including and especially myself, and thru it all the nicodemon whispered in my ear nonstop giving me every excuse in the world to light up. I was such a basket case that first week! When it got really bad I posted here and was amazed by all the support - they helped me to turn my thinking around and to embrace my quit instead of fighting it. I let smoking control my life for most of my life (starting when I was a kid about 10 yrs old rooting Pall Mall (without the filter) butts out of my grandpa and dad's ashtrays - just for fun, I thought... I started buying my own at 13, quit in my early 20's then started back again after a few years cause I thought it would help me lose a few pounds (how dumb was that!?)... So, I'm 49 yrs old now and I've smoked most of my life - I thought it defined me...I thought it made me stronger, nicer... it was who I was... I was soooo wrong! This isn't my first quit but it's the one that will stick! I am sure of that! Thanks SOOOOOOO MUCH to all those who have helped/encouraged me these past two weeks and to all those who have just begun the journey - it really does get better and if I can do it anybody can do it. Good luck to all of u

I Have to Vent

Hi Lady, I've thought about how I want to answer you... you've been so helpful to me that I really wanted to have a profound brainstorm before answering you here... apparently that's not happening so I'll just tell you what I think. First, thank you for caring so much about so many people that you don't even know. If you are willing to put so much of your time and energy into helping people you've never met I can only imagine how much energy you have poured into your family and loved ones. Maybe the best thing to do right now is to give yourself a break where ever it is possible in your life. You've got sooooo many challenges going on in your life at one time. If there isn't any way to change the support system at home so that you're feeling more appreciated than maybe you can just figure out a way to cut yourself a little slack... allow for the fact that you're juggling more than most people can handle and see if there are areas that you can allow yourself to slide in until you're in a less hectic time of your life. Take care of yourself... maybe even put yourself first once in a while.
