Congrats Bluepanda. This is my first day and I'm wearing that gorilla on my back too. One thing I love to see on everyones replys is their meter. What amazes me the most is the money. I guess when we were all smoking we didn't think about how much money we were actually spending. I figure if I can take all that money after one year and go on a family vacation.

Hi BluePanda, A Big Congrats on 14 days! It's a long way already, and it just gets better along the way. I'm only on 8 days, but I have never felt better - and I know this time it's for good - I will not smoke ever again! Keep the rewards in mind, it really helps. I can't wait to go and do shopping with my extra 300 a month, and I have already decided to spend it on the new bed-set I want so badly! So keep strong and remember, we're here! Regards, Gogga :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/10/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 213 Amount Saved: $88 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 13 Mins: 32 Seconds: 19

Thank you Lana, you've really touched my heart. Today has been tough but I'm just doing a lot of deep breathing and drinking lots of ice water and trying to stay busy - although I'm making a ton of absent minded mistakes on my work. arghhhhh! I'm especially sad because months ago I bought tickets to go to Fort Worth (where she lived) for a little vacation starting next Tuesday to visit family. I wish I'd planned the trip for last week instead of next week. I see tomorrow is your 100 day anniversary - that is FABULOUS! I'm so happy for you.

I'm so excited! 7:45 a.m. this morning makes two whole weeks without a cigarette! WOW! I'm soooooooo happy I've been dancing around the house all morning! I can hardly believe I actually did it! :) If you're new here and just starting out with your quit please spend as much time as you can reading some of the post. There is truly a lot of wisdom on this site from people who have been where you are and are ready to share their struggles, to lift you up. I credit the SSC community for helping me to stay focused on my need to quit and for helping me find the way. Reading the post here (sometimes over and over) helped me in my darkest hours to see that others have been where I was and survived without giving in to the craves. I kept telling myself if all these great people could do it then maybe I could do it too... My first week was the hell that they warned me about... but, I survived and the nicodemon (gorilla) on my back is getting easier to manage every single day... The first 3 or 4 days were the battle of all battles. I cried for no reason, I got angry with the whole world including and especially myself, and thru it all the nicodemon whispered in my ear nonstop giving me every excuse in the world to light up. I was such a basket case that first week! When it got really bad I posted here and was amazed by all the support - they helped me to turn my thinking around and to embrace my quit instead of fighting it. I let smoking control my life for most of my life (starting when I was a kid about 10 yrs old rooting Pall Mall (without the filter) butts out of my grandpa and dad's ashtrays - just for fun, I thought... I started buying my own at 13, quit in my early 20's then started back again after a few years cause I thought it would help me lose a few pounds (how dumb was that!?)... So, I'm 49 yrs old now and I've smoked most of my life - I thought it defined me...I thought it made me stronger, nicer... it was who I was... I was soooo wrong! This isn't my first quit but it's the one that will stick! I am sure of that! Thanks SOOOOOOO MUCH to all those who have helped/encouraged me these past two weeks and to all those who have just begun the journey - it really does get better and if I can do it anybody can do it. Good luck to all of u

Thanks Shevie, To be honest I haven't rewarded myself for any of the milestones yet... I keep telling myself just quitting and making it stick is the reward but maybe I'll rethink that. Thanks to everyone for your support and well wishes. My sis called a little bit ago. Our aunt passed away at 3a.m. with pancreatic cancer. Yes, she was a smoker and the 4th on my dad's side of the family to die of smoking related disease. My dad died at 37 of a heart attack (chain smoker and wouldn't quit when he had pneumonia) Another aunt died eaten up with cancer in lungs and breast about five years ago and my uncle on my dad's side died of emphysemia a few years ago... Lots of incentive for me to remember why I have to hang onto this quit. I don't want my kids to watch me die of something I could have prevented. With news of my aunt's passing I'm not dancing like I was this a.m. but I know my aunt is celebrating my quit - I'd like to think she's in heaven dancing for me now.
