Does anyone else do this?

Thanks for the encouragement Crystal... I can realate... Last night I walked into a door frame (I mean I hit it hard!):) Also, it was a little scary yesterday when I drove a few miles to the post office and almost rear ended the car in front of me 3 times. I didn't realize how spacey I was until the third time... I kept thinking it was the other drivers but finally realized it was because for the first time in many years I wasn't having my usual on the way to the p.o. smoke and I was almost hyperventilating over it. grrrrrrrr.... this too shall end. We'll get thru this!

SLEEP DEPRIVATION =(

I would guess that a lot of your issues are as much from the sleep deprivation. I also am WORTHLESS if I don't get my sleep. Can you take a tylenol p.m. or something... maybe a half one? I think this is probably something that time will heal but I know how frustrating it is. My sleep patterns are totally messed up too and from what I've read this seems to be pretty common for the first week. Hang in there! It does feel better just to vent a little... I know. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/3/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 87 Amount Saved: $16 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 11 Mins: 43 Seconds: 33

Hi All!

Good Luck Gogga! During the time leading up to my quit date I started breaking some of my smoking habits... like smoking while on the phone, in the car, etc. It seemed to help prepare me for the final quit... maybe it would help you too. First day!

Hi Razor, I'm new here too. It looks like we have the same quit date. I quit on 4/3 at 7:15 a.m... After my "last" smoke I gathered all my cigs, lighters and "butt can" and prepared to throw them away. Then, I had another "last cig" at 7:45 a.m... That time I made the quit stick... why did it feel like I was saying goodbye to a dear friend? Why was I so scared to quit smoking? I consider myself to be a fairly smart person... except when it comes to my almost lifelong love affair with cigarettes. I literally remember sneaking cigs from my grandpa and dad when I was around 9 or so. At age 13 I bought my own pack on the way to school every morning... if memory serves they were around .35 a pack back then. (I'm dating myself here) :) I quit in my early 20's for several years but for some unknown reason I brilliantly decided that if I started smoking again I could lose those extra 10 pounds I'd gained and then I'd just quit smoking again... Well, that was over 25 years ago... needless to say, that weight loss plan didn't work out. :) I have to admit most of the time I still feeling very fragile and vulnerable with my quit... like I've just taken a beating... hit by a truck... can't breathe, can't focus, crying for no reason, irritable, *****y, whiney ...WAHHHHHH!!! Stumbling upon this site has been a real Godsend for me... I'm so inspired by all those who are ahead of me on this journey... and, grateful to find a community of caring people who can truly understand exactly how it feels to fight this monster. I've seen people here refer to the first week as hell week. Yes, I'd say that's been true for me. But, this is a fight worth fighting and it's one I'm determined to win. Failure is not an option! Most of my quit smoking ideas are pretty common and I've read them here already but I do have one tip that has helped me. My husband was a smoker many years ago (before we met) and he told me that he mixed 1/2 tsp of cream of tarter with a few ounces of orange juice and drank that twice a day - once in the a.m. and once before bedtime. I was skeptical but it does seem to be a great help with minimizing the nicotine withdrawal. I'm not sure why it works but I accidently skipped my a.m. dose yesterday and I definitely could tell a difference i

I can use your help please

Islandgirl & Josie, Thank for giving me more food for thought. I appreciate your input. Butterflyswimmer, thanks for that link. After reading that link I'm even more sure that I need to be cautious right now. Sunshine, Thanks a million for the vote of confidence. :) Healerwithin, I'm glad that you said what you did. My intuition tells me that I am definitely not ready to spend time with them yet... it's too soon in my quit and I'm not feeling strong enough yet. I've tried to argue with myself about it - I get angry sometimes for not being strong enough yet. But, it does no good to beat myself up over it - I guess I just need to accept where I am and protect the quit no matter what. I know they'll understand and be there for me 100%. I'll spend more time with them when I return in July and I'm sure by then I'll be ready to jump in with both feet. Contemplating all of this over the last few days has made me realize that even though I say that I have embraced my quit as a good thing I am still angry and I still see it as a punishment to have given up smoking. I need to spend some serious time getting a grip on my thinking. It's like I know intellectually that the quit is a good thing but the emotional part of me is feeling deprived... I have to face that and deal with it very soon! Thanks all - have a great smokefree week!
