Want hubby to get off his high horse

Hi, cincere. Unfortunately, you can't get your hubby off his high horse and any attempts will just make it worse. It's a male ego thing that keeps him from admitting he needs help (preparing and coming here both equal help). He's got to protect his precious ego or some body part may fall off. All you can do is protect your own quit and let him find his own way. Hopefully, he won't see your successful quit as an indictment against him because he can't. Hopefully, he will see your success and an indicator that he can be successful, too. And he can, once his head's on straight. So don't push or nag him. When he tries, encourage him. When he slips, encourage him to try again. Day 1 of a long journey

Hi, Siobhan. Congratulations on your quit and welcome to the SSC. I know what you mean about not being able to picture yourself as a non-smoker. After smoking for 39 years, I didn't have that level of imagination, either. Hang in there and stay quit and here's what will happen: You will begin to discover the real you and leave the one that was controlled by nicotine behind. This is a good change because the real you is free, not chained to an addiction. Also, you will begin to see your future non-smoking self as you gain experience with life without cigarettes. That's all that's missing, Siobhan, experience. You've made a grand choice for life. :) Let us know how you're doing and how we can help. Day 1

Hi, Bonnie. Congratulations on your quit and welcome to the SSC. You've made a great choice for freedom. It won't be easy and it won't be quick, but you can do it and it is soooo worth it. :) Stay close, read much, post often. Let us know how you're doing and how we can help. I'm hoping it gets easier..

Hi, Treesh. Congratulations on 9 days quit and welcome to the SSC. Slow days are a real bummer early in a quit. The two biggest threats, based on what I've seen here, are boredom and stress. You're just a bit over a week into quitting an addiction you served for years. Don't expect to undo years in just a few days. You should reward yourself often in this time of your quit. It helps. Hang in there, Treesh. Take the pain and coming out of the closet

Hi, Bobbie. Welcome to the SSC. You've made a great choice. Don't beat yourself up over the slip. It happens. There aren't too many here who are on their first quit, so you're in good company. Just consider the 5 days a practice run. :) Smoking is a drug addiction, just like heroin and cocaine. In fact, the brain's response to nicotine is very similar to its response to cocaine. Lab mice have died choosing to satisfy their nicotine addiction over food and water. But breaking it can be done. The people on this site are proof of that. Keep us updated on how you're doing, Bobbie, and how we can help. I DO NOT know if I can do this

Hi, free104. Congratulations on being quit 4 days (truly an awesome accomplishment) and welcome to the SSC. Breathe deep. Breathe deep. Breathe deep. Breathe deep. Repeat. The nicotine is pretty much out of your system now. Smoking will just put it back in and restart the addiction/withdrawal process. You do not want that to happen! :8o: Try sugar-free candies, sucking or chewing on straws, reading and posting here, whatever it takes to not smoke. You DO have control, you just have to exercise it. It's not easy. If it was nobody would smoke. You do not have one by not putting one in your mouth and lighting it. OK? Hang in there, free104. Don't blow the four days. I DO NOT know if I can do this

I just read your post in the diet watch thread. You're quitting two things at once (cigs and food). One is enough for any mortal. EAT if that helps the craves. Don't worry about pounds. They will come off after your quit is stable. I am there, doing that. It works. Focus on quitting smoking right now.
