Hi again, Tennielle (just responded to your other thread).
Had a boss that once told me "Don't think! You'll weaken the team." :8o:
Sounds like all your knowledge is giving ammunition to your addiction, fueling the junkie thinking that's keeping you from quitting. Paralysis by analysis.
Smoggone just summed up the true secret to a successful quit. Don't smoke. Do not put a cigarette in your mouth, do not light it, do not take a drag, do not inhale. Do not smoke. No thinking, no analysis, no questioning, no pondering, no second guessing, no smoking.

Smug is good! :)
A couple of days ago I was taking a break outside (like I did when I smoked) and there were a couple of smokers out there, too. One of them (who used to bum a lot from me) got done and started in, noticed I wasn't smoking, and the following conversation ensued:
Him: "You want cigarette?"
Me: "Why?" (said with a "what's wrong with you" tone)
Him: "You're not smoking."
Me: "I quit."
Him (eyes wide with surprise): "When?"
Me: "About 8 months ago."
Him (shaking head as he walked off): "Wow."
That felt good (snicker).

Welcome to hell week, siomarie! :)
It passes, trust me, it passes. Everyone is different, but it sounds like your first day may be the worst one.
My first day was a constant "heading out to smoke" fight. I was actually a bit sore that evening like I'd spent the day doing yard work, or something else physical.
The second was all the junkie thoughts; multiple ones at once going on all day. I called them "voices in my head" (LOL). Mostly they were annoying, but some were rather comical.
The third day I blew up all over the Demon Busters thread. I was so mad at cigarettes and what I was going through that I went to the store, bought a pack, came back to work and shredded them. That did wonders for my attitude. Calmed me right down.
If you need to vent, cry, scream, or blow up come here and do it. The people around you don't deserve it and we don't mind. :p
Hang in there, siomarie. You've started a grand journey. We'll be pleased if you let us help you along on it.

I tried the rubber band trick for a bit. All it did for me was make my wrist sore and annoy me. Being annoyed was a trigger so I stopped doing it.
I think Groovekitty's idea is better. ;p
Whatever works for you, fish. That's what is really important.

"crave the quit" is Butterfly Swimmers tag line. She also has a NOPE bracelet she had made (NOPE on her wrist instead of her hand).
Sorry, I just tend to spot patterns in noise sometimes.
Congratulations on making it through the morning. Now you have the afternoon, then the evening. Break it up into little chunks, even down to minutes if you have to. You can eat an elephant one bite at a time.
You're not going crazy. :) You're becoming healthier, recovering from smoking, breaking an addiction. You're doing a grand and wonderous thing here. Hang on. The beast will die.

Congratulations, rawker. Good job fighting the demon (Nicodemon, not your significant other). Everytime you whip a crave you weaken it.
Keep up the good quit, rawker. :)

Welcome to the SSC cmr and Poprocks. Congratulations on your quits. :)
The car turned out to not be the challange I was afraid it would be. Of course, I only have about a 20 minute drive so it doesn't last long. But what I did was take advantage of the relative "isolation" of it. When I did crave or get hit by junkie thoughts, I just yelled at them. Literally, I yelled at them like they were someone in the car with me that I was really mad at. Anybody in cars around me probably thought I was nuts. That was OK, too, especially if it made them back off and stay away in case I turned into a "road rager". Got where I was going a bit hoarse more that once.
Also, I found that watching a minute or so ahead of what I was doing would warn me of upcoming triggers and I'd be ready for the crave. Found that anticipated craves were much weaker than expected, if they happened at all.
Then there was my "strawerette". I took a straw (Cracker Barrel's are best) about the diameter of a cig and cut it to cig length. Folded and crimped (bit) the "fire" end until it felt like a cig when I drew on it. Made a great prosthetic. I kept it in my shirt pocket and pulled it out just like a cig when I needed to "smoke".
Y'all have made a grand choice for your lives, cmr and Poprocks. Stay close.

Hi, JamieUS. Congratulations on your 7 days quit and welcome to the SSC.
Sometimes smoking masks other problems and when one quits the sypmtoms then become apparent. It sounds like you may be having anxiety attacks. I'm no doctor and have no experience with anxiety problems, but from what I've seen here, that may be what's happening.
Sleep disturbances are normal for the first few weeks. Some people can't sleep while some sleep all the time. Don't worry about sleep problems, they'll correct themselves.
It's good you're seeing your doctor about the tightness in your chest. Let us know the outcome. We're here for you.
