Calling all Knights....The Chickens Cryin Again!

Get through right now. Get through today. Forget last night. Don't worry about your other quits. Don't worry about other people's quits. All you have to do is right now. For me, days 10 and 11 were the worst. And they were Christmas, so you can imagine how my husband felt! NO! NO! You will not have days like this the rest of your life! Who told you that? It's the addiction talking into your ear. Let it go out the other ear. As Josie says, pamper yourself, take a bubble bath, drink some nice hot tea, put on your jammies, play some nice music. Day by day, you will be farther away from where you started this quit. Not every day will be good -- that was true when you were a smoker, too. But things will get better! The ?I am Quit? Fixation

Joe, I completely agree with you! I believe that some quits are more emotional, some are more physical. Support efforts seem to focus on the latter, because the former is oh so complex. After several agonizing months of mood swings, anger and depression, I was able to go to a substance abuse counselor through my employer's confidential assistance program. Although smoking isn't (in most circles) considered substance abuse, she was quite familiar with addiction issues and was a wonderful help to me. You will always hear me strongly recommend talking therapy when things seem to be getting out of control. I need help understanding what's going on!!

NSA girl, faith is belief in things unseen. You know for a fact that you have gotten through 26 days by using various coping methods. You can use that evidence, plus those of us who are also in this battle with you, to be pretty darn sure that this is one that is winnable. You may not be able to see the future, but you can certainly visualize it: see yourself as a non-smoker! That's what you are!!! Remember that not every day is going to be great, but then they weren't when you were smoking either! Don't be worried or get discouraged -- keep the faith! I am at my wits end!

ArwensMom, what a great day for you! Practice those thoughts, write them down and carry them with you. Believe me, I know what a tough battle this can be, but you have finally started filling your arsenal with some powerful tools!!! Had a VERY BAD episode tonight!

Hi Siren, I've been keeping an eye out for you...we "met" at 3fatchicks. I'm glad you've made it here, because all of us collectively have experienced pretty much everything when it comes to addiction. So although I might not have your exact issues, someone here will come pretty close. And almost all of us have multiple issues that we deal with -- family, separation, illness, etc. There is no such thing as an easy quit! But there IS such thing as a wonderful support group, and this is it. I like to say that if you want to quit smoking, you must do whatever it takes to protect your quit. When things are feeling rocky, jump on line, take a walk, take a bubble bath, or take a nap. Do what it takes! You can do it! I am at my wits end!

If you pay attention to your language, it might sound as though you are blaming all your woes on quitting smoking and therefore looking for an excuse to smoke. Look at this:
I don't know that I can cope with all the disasters this endevor is causing me.

All I could think about was having a cigarette. That was on my mind so strongly that I forgot to lock up. First time in my whole life.

I spent two hours last night at home just saying to myself, "don't smoke, you don't want a cigarette" until I so stressed out that I took sleeping pills.

I can't say that this is worth it another day. I really can't.
Many of us have suggested that you get some medical attention because it seems as though there is something more going on for you than just quitting. Have you done that? As the moderators frequently say, smoking can mask other issues. If you really want to quit, you'll look for help. If you don't really want to quit, you'll look for reasons why not. In either case, it's a choice only you can make. Rusty
