YEA, YOU MADE IT THROUGH THE NIGHT. WHAT EVER WORKS FOR YOU DO IT!!!26 DAYS IS SOMETHING TO BE VERY PROUD OF. I'M THINKING YOU WENT COLD TURKEY, IS THAT RIGHT??? I AM WEARING THE PATCH AND I HAVE LITTLE CRAVINGS, YOU ARE A LOT BRAVER THAN I. YOU DESERVE A STAR FOR MAKING IT THROUGH THE NIGHT. JUST KEEP SAYING I CAN DO THIS AND HAVE THE FAITH IN YOURSELF THAT YOU CAN. EVERY DAY I SAY LORD I CAN'T BUT I KNOW YOU CAN. :) KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK...... Well done on getting through this one. In fact you have already coped with a lot worse in the first few days of your quit. I think that the difference is that you expected them at first and therefore prepared yourself, getting them at this stage has taken you by surprise. Better advice has preceded this by more experienced folk but what they say sounds good yo me. BTW 26 - thats fantastic. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/6/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 18 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 223 Amount Saved: 45 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 9 Mins: 32 Seconds: 42

NSAgirl, Glad to see that you are feeling better today !! Just think of it this way.. a bad spell every so often for the next say maximum 6 months.. or a lifetime of slavery to smoking and all the crap that comes with it.. remember why you quit ?? You can make it through these momentary slaps.. you will win the war ! Also are you enjoying that extra $3-$4 per day you are saving.. ?? You are going to do this!!! I am 54 years old, have been a closet smoker for more than 30 years, educated.........R.N., see myself as well adjust, confident, independent, progressive thinker, wife, mother, Past -President of the local Woman' Club, blah, blah, blah and YET, YET, have been a loyal subject and prisoner to a drug more powerful that kinship, sisterhood, and free will! Having a ciggie has at one time or another taken priority over just about everything else..... LOL U gotta laugh! I am beginning to believe that this is the original " Forbidden Fruit" and we had better get tough, stick together and be prepared for it to reel it's evil head forever! Just have got to have a fixed set of reactions to it's presence, ready to cope with the temptations. I have been quit for 26 days now. I have handled most of the craves by saying "you don't smoke anymore" and "I am the only person who can break the nicotine chain by not having another" , etc. I spent weeks preparing for this quit, knowing my pitfalls from 2-3 other quits (I've smoked for 30 + years). I have also decided that I just need to have tremendous FAITH that it DOES get better, as evidenced by all the wonderful people here on this site. That being said, last night was the second time in this quit that I had an urge that seemed unstoppable. I mean, like I was under a spell - totally heading out the door to buy a pack of cigs, saying I just can't handle this. It was the biggest struggle of my life. I don't have a clue what triggered it, and why it was so strong. As I said, this is the second time this has happened in 26 days. I'm worried and getting discouraged. How can I go on faith that it will get better, when out of the blue I have these horrible urges? I just made myself curl up in a ball and go to sleep. Help! THANKS you guys! I know you're right, and I have had it pretty easy with the cravings. Sometimes it is ok to just crawl into bed, I guess! I feel much better today, and I know that I will come back here and read this if this ever happens again. I really appreciate the feedback, it makes alot of difference for me and keeps me strong!! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/29/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 26 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 398 Amount Saved: $104 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 21 Mins: 24 Seconds: 35

Hi NSA Girl, Call me an optimist, but the way I see it is you had 2 extremely bad craves in the last 26 days that you call "unstoppable" urges, right? And yet here you are on day 26 after not giving in and smoking. You have done AMAZING! You protected your quit even if it meant crawling into bed and pulling the covers over your head. You are doing all the RIGHT things. Don't be discouraged, you have to KNOW that with all of us telling you it will get better, it will. Keep Strong girl, It may not feel like it, but you're doing great!! NSA, It is so important to always remember to take this quit one step at a time. You will have good days and bad days just as you did when you smoked. You are coming up on a period when a lot people give up quitting. Don't fall into that trap. Do not think in terms of forever. It will not always be this way. When things are tough go back to the coping skills you used the first week of your quit. Keep pushing foward and eventually you will find your way to freedom. Believe in yourself. As long as you don't light that next cigarette you are doing just fine! Keep up the great quit!
