May I gently suggest some talking therapy to help you get through all these mixed up feelings?

Daloosh, hang in there! Hang on tight...you only have to go through this for a day or two. I know you don't want to throw away all your hard work. Take it a minute at a time, then an hour at a time. Remember all your coping mechanisms from the first few days...you can do this! You ARE doing it!

Chicken, everyone has given you excellent advice, but I think the best is from Meg. Don't try to bite off the entire rest of your life...just for today, take it one hour at a time. Some days you have to do that. A LOT of days I have to do that. And it isn't just to maintain my quit, it is to maintain my balance. You can do this. You have fought hard to get where you are...let your REAL brain think, not your addict brain...and don't lose what you've worked so hard for.

Lady, there is no way that 426 calories a day is good for you. Please go to one of the other sites and read up on it (3fatchicks or sparkpeople)...sorry to lecture. :)
I have been having a medication drama. I felt so good and then had a major flareup Sunday night and Monday morning. Thought I had broken my wrist in the middle of the night because I couldn't even pick up a bottle of water or a cup of coffee. Husband took me to the doctor Monday and they put me on a pulse pack of Prednisone (a steroid). The good news is that it started working on the inflammation almost immediately and all my arthritis pains (hips, feet, wrist) are gone for now. The bad news is that the prednisone is making me so ill... queasy and hyper. Fortunately I only have to take it through Saturday.
The good news is that somehow my weight also went down by 3 pounds overnight. I can only speculate that all the inflammation was making me retain fluid. I've also been eating very clean during the past 4 or 5 days, but I doubt that accounts for the rapid loss.
Check in later!
Rusty

H, if you're on day 2, you ARE quit! Just do it again tomorrow! It's as easy as that. Build on your successes each day and you will be stronger each day. Welcome back!

Hey Lana, I really like Sparkpeople, too! I started out using fitday and I still go to 3fatchicks for the forums, but sparkpeople has so much info, it's amazing!
I was always a small thin person and like you, at menopause starting putting on weight around the middle. One book I read (Body for Life for Women) called it "meno-pot".) Then when I quit smoking, another 10 pounds. So I started walking and exercising, too, which is a challenge sometimes with my arthritis. But it is so great to not be a smoker, isn't it? It's like removing one big giant obstacle that discolored everything about my life!
Rusty :)
Hi Lana, please join us on the daily diet watch thread. We try different things and share information and laugh a lot!
There are a couple of good tools we've shared - fitday, 3fatchicks, and sparkpeople. They are all dot com sites.
Here's my advice:
1. Start eating clean. Get processed food out of your diet as much as possible. Eat vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and quality protein.
2. Stay away from fast food places.
3. Don't drink sodas of any kind.
4. Avoid the Whites - white flour, white sugar, white rice.
5. The scales are not your friends - judge your health by how your clothes fit. (I know! I know!)
6. Add some strength training to your exercise. You can buy light dumbbells at Target or Walmart. Get a book or find a website that shows how to do some basic strengthening exercises. One good site is stumptious.(com)
Lana, it's a long process and similar in some ways to quitting smoking. You didn't gain the weight overnight and you won't lose it overnight. It's best to think healthy eating rather than diet. Then it becomes a lifestyle change.
Rusty :)
