Double Your Effort

Here's a thought to take you into the week: Double Your Effort Right now you can take one sure and steady step toward whatever you desire. It may not seem like much, yet for every step forward you take, you actually gain two steps. Why? Because at any point in time you have a choice. You can either move toward your goal or you can move away from it. Standing still is usually not an option. So when you move forward, you also avoid moving backward. That's a net gain of double your effort. When you spend your time and effort today in moving forward, not only do you make progress, you also avoid having to play catch up tomorrow. Indeed, now is the time to act. The sooner you get started, the farther you can go and the more effective you'll be. The choice is yours. You can act today and double your effectiveness, or you can wait until later and slice your effectiveness in half. This moment right now is yours to leverage in a powerful way. It's a great opportunity. new member..

Hi Poppy and welcome! I have a suggestion. If the first one in the morning is the hardest, start by cutting it out. After you do it about 3 days in a row, your brain gets the message that it's not that important. Change up your morning routine. If you have the first one as soon as you wake up (as I did), now get up and get in the shower before you light it. If you have the first one with your coffee at a certain place, try tea instead and move to a different place to drink it. Good luck! Tail Between Legs

Stu, sorry to add more blows to the beating, but Lady's right. You know exactly what happened. You went into the store, took out your money and bought a pack and then you went outside and lit up. There's no mystery there. You know what you have to do...don't buy any and don't light any. You can't smoke and be a non-smoker. Thinking about quitting and scared

Fitz, we were all scared about quitting. I was terrified! But everyone here can tell you that there's only one way to quit...don't light the next one. Sounds easy, doesn't it? But that's not the only trick. The other part is to work the program tools, develop your plan, and learn as much as you can about addiction. Read as many posts here as you can. You will see that all kinds of people with all kinds of situations have successfully quit and you can, too! The Daily Diet Watch IV

Four mile walk this morning just about knocked me out! I learned: 1. Even though it's not even spring, I can still get dehydrated. 2. I haven't walked that far since the fall...should have eased back a little. However, I'm here to tell the tale and I'm glad I did it. It was a beautiful morning and I saw an osprey down by the river. Then I came home and ate a high-fat breakfast cooked by husband: scrambled eggs with cheese, bacon, toast, peach preserves. YUM! Tonight is shrimp and something. retaining water, tense muscles

Sian, sometimes quitting smoking brings on other issues...tension, anxiety, etc. You might try some deep relaxation, meditation, stretching, etc. I found some tapes that were made for just laying on the floor and relaxing all your muscles. If that doesn't help, you might check with your doctor. Lana, 3galeh is right. Water will help flush that salt, but try to avoid eating too much salt and drinking too much soda if possible. Lots of foods you buy have salt in them too. Wendy, you deserve a massage as a reward for more than 6,000 cigarettes not smoked! help me stop smoking

Ed, take a look at the program tools over on the left. They will help you with your plan of action. Ex Roller is right -- lots of folks here have quit and will be able to help you. Good luck! help me stop smoking

Ed, unless your son is a former smoker, he doesn't understand addiction. But you CAN quit. You must change your thinking to "I CHOOSE NOT TO SMOKE. SMOKING IS NOT AN OPTION." Take it one day at a time, even one hour at a time. Rusty

look at them stats

That is an amazing number, isn't it, Sheller? I have always been awed by the number of cigarettes not smoked. Seems like not so long ago that I couldn't have gotten by without ONE. Congratulations!!! forgot to put a patch on

Bambi, only you can make that decision. If you can't go on with your quit without the patch, then I say do it. Do whatever it takes to protect your quit. There's time enough in the future to wean from the patch.
