Honestly the last 4 days were miserable, spending them cooped up with my family, catching their awful sinus infections, and traveling which is the biggest trigger for me. But I made it without smoking, and tried to keep in mind how much "better" the holidays were without wondering how I could sneak cigarettes without anybody catching me or smelling it on me... (Oh, the "joys" of being a closet smoker.) Fortunately I am back home now and the stress levels can go down now that I am not obligated to spend time with my family for a few more months. Once I have caught up on my sleep I will reward myself. :)
Way to go Jen! Make sure to give yourself a nice reward. The first days are really rough, the first week truly is hell, and then it slowly gets better. Be proud of yourself and hang in there!
You're doing great Mamma and we're all rooting for you.
I remember my first week, the only thing I could think about was cigarettes and I thought it would never end. I almost broke a $100,000+ piece of equipment at work because I couldn't think clearly and wasn't paying attention while using it. I felt constantly frustrated and couldn't wait for it to end. The good news is, IT GETS SO MUCH BETTER!! Is it always easy? Of course not. But it's way better than that first week. Keep hanging in there and you'll be amazed when you realize that you just spent several hours, or maybe even a day, and haven't thought about smoking.
Keep rewarding yourself. Plan something great to celebrate your first week.
One of my big motivations for quitting is cancer. I didn't smoke long and I'm pretty young so I'm hoping that I didn't do too much damage. On the one hand, I know and watched a good friend's mentor die from lung cancer brought on by decades of smoking. And on the other hand I have watched family members die and struggle with cancer that had nothing to do with smoking. You never know what is going to happen, but it's not fair to all of the people I love who have had cancer to do something that I know contributes to so many types of cancer. :(
How are you feeling today Hud? We're all here rooting for you. Post as often as you need. Do you have a nice reward planned for getting through the first few days??
Jen - I have a lot of days like that. I focus on getting home, getting comfortable and putting on my PJs. Then I don't want to leave my nice warm apartment to buy cigarettes, much less have to stand outside to smoke (can't do it indoors). I think the cold weather and snow helps. Any kind of trick to keep you from buying cigarettes is a good one. :)
