New to The Forum

Hello, My name is Karen and I am new to the forum. My quit date is March 1, 2007. I have been slowly trying different things to slow down my smoking. Delaying the first cig in the morning, not going out for breaks, that sort of thing. I am also on Chantix. Seems to be doing some good. Instead of smoking a pack a day I am down to 1/2 pack or less. Thats really good for me since I tend to psych myself out when I say I am going to quit and I usually fail. Really really want to quit this time. This forum has been a great help so far, I can't stop reading it which is good. Anyway I want to say good luck to all our fellow quitters and I will keep posting my progress. Thanks for being here. :)

Hi Carlos, Thanks for the post. I am using Chantix, its that new pill they have out that is susposed to target the nicotine receptors in the brain and block the nicotine from getting there. Hence smoking does nothing for you, so you quit easier. I know it is working because I was smoking 20-25 cigs a day and now I am down to like 10 or less. When i quit on Thursday I think it will be easier now then before. Also Chantix has made me very sensative to the smell of smoke, (don't like it). I would recommend this Program to anyway who feels they don't have the will power. Its expensive if your Insurance doesn't cover it (prescription only), but I figured whats $125.00 a month when I was spending $180.00 a month on smokes! I have tried the patch and the gum and all those other things, cold turnkey, never worked. I have tried this so many times that my friends and family don't believe I will make it this time either. But I think I have the determination this time.!

Back to Work and nervous

Nico, Keep trying, we all have failures, its how you pick yourself up and get back on the horse that counts! You can do this. Ask your doc about Chantix. I am on it right now and it seems to be doing me good. My quit date is 3/1/07 and I started Chantix last Thursday. I have already cut down from 20-25 cigs a day to less than 10. You are allowed to smoke on the first week you are on the pills. After the first week you are supposed to quit. I can feel the difference. I don't want to smoke as much. I still have some cravings but they seems to be a bit easier to get over. Ask your doc and good luck getting back on the horse!

Zyban not working

Hey There, Chantix is a prescription program to help smokers quit. It is a set of pills taken over 12 weeks. You start out taking 1 white pill for three days, they you take 2 white pills for the remainder of the first week. After that they are blue pills taken twice daily (morning and night) for the next 12 weeks. You can smoke while taking the first week's pills and then they suggest you pick a quit date. It cost me $125.00 a month, but most insurance companies now cover it. I started last Thurdsay and my quit date is 3/1/07. I have gone down from 1.5 packs a day to 10 or less in just the last 4 days. Chantix targets the receptors in the brain and stops the nictine from getting there and hence you don't get the same feelings from smoking as you do now. Smoking no longer does any thing for you and it helps you to quit. Chantix also helps with the cravings, they seem to be easier to handle. For the first time in 20+ years, I feel I can actually make this quit stick. I know there will be bumps, but it feels as if I can handle them better being on the Chantix. Ask you doc and good luck!

New to The Forum

Hi Patricia, I am so glad I found this forum, I can't stay off of it. There is so much help and encouragment here. For the first time in years, and I do mean years, I feel I can make this quit work. Really glad I found Chantix too. I wish you the best of luck on your quit. Keep me posted. We'll count the days together. Wish I had your strength to go cold turkey! I just could not. The Chantix cost me $125.00 for the first month, but I felt I was already spending $180.00 a month on smokes, so I could afford $125.00. Wish my insurance would have covered it, I put an appeal in, but hey I got started so thats all that counts. :)

want to quit smoking for good

Hi Pattymagic, You can do this, try going the steps of this program that are on the left. Decide if you think you need NRT and pick a quit date! You sound like now is the time to do this, so start now! There is a ton of support on this forum. Who cares if you gain a pound or two, you will be able to take it off when you are completely free of the cigs. Your health is more important right now. Take one step at a time, one day at a time or even 1 hour at a time. You CAN DO THIS My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: -1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

New Quitter...

Hello Leroux44 I am new to Chantix myself. Started the pills on Thursday of last week and 3/1/07 is my quit date. I have noticed that it is easier to get over the cravings. I still have a few really hard ones, like my first one in the morning and my 2:00pm smoke break from work. But it does seem easier to climb over the craving then to go and have that smoke. I have noticed the cigs are not tasting as good as they used to and I am more sensitive to the smell of cig smoke. I have cut down from 1.5 packs a day to about 10 or less. So the Chantix is working. Hopefully for you it will work too. Most of this journey I think is all mind set. First we work on the addiction and then we work on the mind and the habit. Thats where this forum comes in. Post as often as we need to especially when a craving hits, it helps to get over it. Good luck with your quit, keep posting! :)

Really Stressfull Day

HELP Having a really stressful day. Tomorrow is my quit date and I am really doing a number on my head today!!! Plus I have some really stressful things that happened last night at home and I am feeling very fulnerable today. Need to get past this day and I think tomorrow will be better! But have to get past today first! I am a very emotional person and so problems usually send me into a tisy for at least one day. Once I get past that I am fine and I can deal with life again. So here I go looking for ways to get my mind off of the quit date so i can stop driving myself crazy.

Really Stressfull Day

Hi Thanks for the support, yes I have a plan, I have been doing the steps that are on the left, and I am using Chantix. I was just having a really stressful time at home right now and then with my wonderful head trying to tell me that this isn't the time. Well you are right, your addiction will always tell you its not the right time. So I am going to try and keep busy today and get through this day and i am sure tomorrow will be better.
