Red, you're right on. Lack of sleep exacerbates & sometimes even causes so many kinks in the ol' system it's amazing we're walking around at all! But if we're having trouble sleeping because we've recently quit smoking, and we're having trouble fighting off the cravings because we're exhausted from lack of sleep, what the heck is a guy or gal supposed to do?
Cold Turkeys have nightmares about stuffing and gravy!

Awesome! Post often over the wknd & keep busy. You'll notice time passing w/ no thoughts of smoking at all. But then, just when you're feeling cocky & over-confident, the craving will come out of nowhere. Don't let it drag you back to square one. Each moment that goes by w/out a smoke is one step ahead & away from the smokers' pit. You could make an agreement w/ yourself: Before I smoke a cigarette, I'll log in & post first, "About to slip - HELP!!!" I'm sure you'll get the whole squadron to come running. (Normally I don't hv access to a computer over the wknds, but if I do, I'll be leading the rescue effort!) You've made the best choice of your life. You can be a Fresh Air Freak, too!
Cold Turkeys love 76, too.

Yep, that's exactly it. When I first "tried" to quit, I was hating myself for the depths I would sink to, trying to hide that I was sneaking a smoke. I had to try and fail in order to succeed.
I know you wanted to hear fm the newer folks but I couldn't help myself. As usual, Joe, you hit a nerve and my knee-jerk response is above.
(Cold Turkeys are a little nerve-y.)

Does Mad-Man Brent know about this continuing saga? You're killin' me here! I'm away fm my computer on the wknds & usually can't get in til Mon. @ 5:30am. I'll be wondering for two whole days! Everyone has to promise to keep bumping Part 4 so I don't miss it on Monday.
Cold Turkeys love a good Mini-Series!

The early birds catch the worms! Although I don't know if turkeys eat worms or not. Oh well, as long as the worms aren't smoking, we're all right.
No smoking, okay? (in Largo, FL.)

One of me wanted to quit smoking but another kept saying just one more. Then another read the Allen Carr book and knew it was time. And yet another me claims to have never been told of these so-called smoking related diseases...
Needless to say the strongest me ate the others and now I'm six months quit and quite full.
Cold Turkeys have to be cannibals sometimes.

You're right, and I was in just that frame for almost a month when I first began my quit-odyssey. Cutting down was not working for me. I finally figured out that each time I "slipped" I was starting the quit all over again. I realized that in order to advance past the starting line, I would have to not smoke. It sounds unbelievable simple now but at the time it was quite a revelation for me.
Now, every once in a while, I think about smoking. In some rare situations I actually hear myself say in my head, "I wish I still smoked." But it's very seldom, and even then I know it's like wishing I could fly like a bird: It'll never happen. In most cases though, when the thought of smoking comes up, I'm usually reminding myself that 6 months ago, in this same situation, I would have smoked. I would instantly remember how unpleasant it would feel/smell/taste and thank God I don't have to do that anymore!
Jer- You'll get there. Hang tough. Keep busy. Repeat in your head, (or out loud if you want,) I DON'T SMOKE. I DON'T SMOKE. Even if you don't believe it at first. You will.

Repetition and determination often resemble each other. Sometimes the former becomes the latter. Always encourage and never disparage.
