Not to sure how to do this

Thanks Sunny and Davit,

Everything you said makes tons of sense and I know I shouldn't be so worried...it will come, guess I'm just not at that point yet and who knows my hip may make the decision for me whether I like it or not. I have drafted the letter to my surgeon, I haven't sent it yet but at least I wrote it. One step at a time.

Inspirational Quotes

Yesterday, I started looking up inspirational quotes and writing down the ones that impressed me the most and I thought I would share one with the group:

"The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, worry about the future, or anticipate troubles but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly."- Buddha

Inspirational Quotes

Hi Davit,

Yes I did and I guess that's why it struck me so, Buddha was a very wise man and it only proves that living in the now is really all that matters.

Myth or Fact

I know the first step is always the hardest and posting takes alot of courage but it will help ease the pain one feels dealing with this condition. Keeping it inside will just make you worse...the best part of the PanicCenter site is that you have the anonymity if you wish it and can still open up knowing there are people here who understand and are very caring.

Sunny,
You never say to much...even though I may not know you that well , I sense that you are a warm, caring person and I am honored to consider you me friend ....all of you are gems, truly.

Accomplishments and other Postive Things

Yes, I think the weather plays a major role in how we feel. It does for me anyway, I can always tell if a storm is coming or high winds because my hip will hurt like the blazes and if there is a cloudy day I have no ambition at all.

I think you are also right Davit when you say that being retired  adds to your anxiety... being busy all your life and then having to slow down is difficult at the best of times. Since my son has gone to university and it's just my husband and I , it can be a challenge to get going or finding a purpose, I guess. You can only clean house, do the yard etc. so many times before you run out of things to keep you occupied. I was never one to sit for more than a few minutes before I tackled something else...now with my hip I have to pace myself and I find it extremely difficult. That's just in my case, I don't know if others feel the same or not.

New to CBT

Hi Cleo,
I'm so sorry you had such a bad day. Go back to your doc and take her up on the meds. You sound just like I was when I had my first anxiety attack....it took a few weeks before I could see my doc but the meds have helped. I even had to go back to  him because I couldn't sleep for love nor money, so he gave me something for a short while . You just can't cope when you are exhausted and there is no shame in asking for help.
I wish you all the best and keep posting ....you'll get alot of support here.

Just need your input

Things have been going quite well since my doctor gave me some meds to help me sleep, no anxiety to speak of really. The last few days I have reduced the amount I take from 1mg. to .05mg...not wanting to quit all at once. I am still getting sleep and can seem to cope if a few anxious thoughts come along but I often worry about what my sleep will be like once I stop that med. altogether. I'm still on amitriptyline but just can't seem to stop worrying about whether I will sleep or not.
The lack of sleep always makes the anxiety unbearable and I suppose I'm afraid of going through it again. I have considered trying more natural approaches i.e. lemon balm tea and other sleep aids such as Rest and Sleep which contains valerian and other herbs.
Is this a wise approach....I do plan to ask my doctor on Monday when I see him but I think many medical doctors don't put much salt into the herbal approach. Also would consulting a naturopath be good move? Would like to hear your thoughts.

New to CBT

Hi Cleo,
So glad to see you slept well....that in itself is a god send. I began a support group on the 7 of March and it does help. They cover alot of what you see here on the site and being surrounded by people who are going through the same thing and sometimes worse really puts things into perspective. If you have a Mental Health organization in your area just call them and they should be able to give you the information you need and maybe even put you on the list. Other than that ask your doctor he/she should know who to contact and may even give you a referral.
A friend of mine also lent me her book , it also included a relaxation CD. I'm sure you could probably find loads of information at your local library.

As for the meds well alot of that depends on you and your personal health history. I take amitriptyline , this is an anti-depressant that also helps with sleep and  pain ( for me anyways), and I hope that someday I can get off of that too.
I also got a medication to help me, just for a little while, to sleep and to cover the anxiety better.

I still think my inability to sleep has alot to do with my change of life but for no sleep means unbearable anxiety.

Lots of luck!

Just need your input

Thanks Davit,
I know you're right, I'm just so terrified of becoming addicted to the clonazepam. He did tell me to use it for 10 days , so I will continue as you suggest and speak with the doc. on Monday.
Thanks for your input and honesty , it is always appreciated.
