I started thinking...

and that's a really bad thing to do, let me tell ya! I had a stressful night at work, very busy and hectic, working alone as always on the weekends. I just started thinking, well, scr*w it, I'm just going to go buy a pack. And here's where the addiction showed it's hand. I had just decided to buy a pack, and the addiction up and says, well, you know, it's the weekend and you might as well buy 2 packs, then of course, I thought I'd better buy 4 packs, and there you go, I haven't smoked a puff in 16 days, but the addiction has me buying a carton already...I had to laugh at the whole thing! And no, I didn't go buy a pack or a carton, and now I can say I'm smober for 16 days, well, I will be in about 2.5 hours, anyway. Some days are easier/tougher than others, but I sure don't want to be carting an oxygen tank around with me, so I'm better off breathing clean fresh air and not that filtered garbage...

Hubby is taking me to dinner tonight, it's my night off, and he's very proud of me. I keep saying "Bah, humbug" but I'm semi- proud, too. I've done this before and threw away 5 months, so this is very important to me that I speak my truth and don't hide my feelings. I looked back on some of my stuff, and do you know I would have been quit for 4 years in October if I had stayed with it? So, here I am again, looking to keep this one. Quit date is 11-11-11 and it seemed important to be engaged with the date itself. Since it won't happen again for 100 years...

I started thinking...

Wow, that picture, Willis! Thank you and Samantha for the encouragement. I hope to be free to post more and to others, but life happens and I'm so busy these days. I get here when I can.

Thanks again, DeniseK

Might Be Too Little, Too Late...

Hi Magpie! I see your scheduled quit date is tomorrow. I wanted to say, keep the date, and come here often. I don't post much, but I read a lot, and I just think the support here is awesome. So much knowledge and real heart. Let us know how you are doing. Sometimes the fear of something is worse than the something. Don't let the fear keep you from doing what you know is best for your health, body, and mind.
I had much the same issues, couldn't breathe, constant bronchitis, coughing so much I pulled a rib muscle...So I identify with you and your story. I am 57 years old, I've smoked since I was 12 (when Sue and I stole a pack a week from my Dad, oooops, I shouldn't have admitted that...). And I'm here to tell you, it's not easy, but it can be done, and all these people here prove it. I am no longer coughing, I can go up the stairs to the bedroom without wheezing, and I am feeling better. Grumpy, but healthier. All this in 16 days. If it's this much better in 2 weeks, think what 2 months will feel like. Hope to hear from you soon,

Quitting after 23 years 2 packs a day

Hi A! Glad you could join us Quitters! Do have an emergency coping plan for the possibility of craves or triggers or desire, etc. It really helps to have written down your plan and to refer to it if times are difficult. Ice water like breather said or I like hot water, but I'm really weird...and often freezing, lol! Tootsie pops, celery, carrots, and/or sugar free gum all help, too. Again, congratulations! DeniseK

Nicotine replacement

Hi and welcome. Glad you stopped in to see us. I am on Chantix, so I can't really talk about the NRT replacements, but I wanted to say keep reading and posting here; there is a lot of information and knowledge on this site. You caught the weekend, which can be somewhat slower to get a response, but I'm sure someone will be along soon to talk about personal experience with NRTs. DeniseK
