Quitting smoking has been the best beauty treatment I've ever had :-)
My complexion isn't waxy anymore, my lips have natural colour, my eyes are clear, my sleep is deeper and more rejuevenating which gives me a refreshed and alert appearance, my teeth are cleaner, my hair is shinier, the weight I've put on has given me a more curvacious figure, and I am told I look younger than I am.
I'm so glad I don't smoke anymore...yesterday I was at the mall with my sister and she stopped to buy a pack for herself and it cost just under $15.00- for one pack of smokes!!! 'Nuff said

someone told me that smoking causes many of the stress symptoms you just described.
Funny how as my body was revving up to deal with danger, my brain was feeling all happy with itself as the nicotine hit it.

Ok, so I've gained around 30 pounds since I stopped smoking. I've been fretting about it since the scale began to creep up last year...I got out for long walks, ate a lot of cellery and carrots and yogurt, but the sweet toothe did me in I guess.
Then I turned 41 last month and had a bit of a revelation.
I'm not a 16 year old child anymore, I am a mature fully developed woman, if I were as skinny as I thought I was supposed to be, I would look like a sickly little old lady. The weight looks good and healthy.
I think I got realistic with myself, and I feel a lot better about myself now.

I notice that I have a super power nose that can detect the smell of smoke blocks away sometimes lol
The other day a person was walking about a block ahead of me having a smoke and the breeze was wafting the smell toward me...as for tasting it, yep. yep. yep.
If I'm close up to a person who has just had one, I can literally taste it as well as smell it, but that only lasts a few minutes and my senses adjust and I don't notice the smell/taste anymore.
As for it making me want to have one...well I know from past quits, that if I were to light up, it would taste every bit as awful as that first ever smoke way back when, and I would feel sick.
Feeling sick wouldn't stop my brain from wanting more though...

One of my many quit attempts was with the patch and I kept it on overnight because I couldn't hack the morning craves...that aside, I remember the super vivid dreams and I have to admit I enjoyed them, it was like being in an epic movie.
My fave dreams were about start trek and the holodeck.
One night the dreams were so vivid that lol believe it or not Captain Pickard told me it was time to leave the ship and resume my daily activities and I walked out of my dream and into awake land.
I felt totally refreshed and I was in a really good mood.
LOL I used to urge my friends to try the patch just for the dreams :)
The patches were a really excellent stop smoking aid in that they really did work....but sadly my resolve wasn't all it could have been, and I relapsed.
I'm so glad that this time I'm successful :-)

WoW do I remember? I wanted to quit for a couple of years before I finally did it. I remember the embarrassment as all conversation would stop as I hacked and coughed on every drag, only to be told that I really should stop (by the other smokes on top of it all)
I remember going miles out of my way to buy my smokes at a store that would be selling them 'cheaper'.
I remember trying so hard to stop - tossing out all my smokes, lighters etc...and in the morning digging around looking to retrieve it - or heading out to the store to buy more.
It was a terrible addiction and I am so glad to be free.
It took a long time for me to finally make it work, and even though I still struggle with the idea of a magical 'one smoke' I know better and don't give in.
There are many people that I bump into that I haven't seen in a long time and they are amazed that I actually did it, no one thought I would ever really do it.
Well. Here i am.

Hi Dennis,
A water bottle saved my bacon a couple of times at work. Some time ago I had to give a presentation at a meeting and I knew that there were a few people present who would love nothing more than to throw me off my game....the coping tool? a bottle of water. It takes .05 seconds to make a thoughtless remark...taking a 6 second sip and swallow of water buys a lot of gather your wits time :)

Ok, so I've saved an arm and a leg by no longer smoking. When I look at exactly how much I've saved I wish I had all of it in my grubby little hand. I don't. So I asked myself where did it all go?
Well first of all, I am not a wealthy woman and have lived on a very tight budget for most of my life....which means I was cutting corners in order to support my addiction.
Once I no longer had to cut those corners, suddenly I could afford better grocery shopping choices, and new clothes, and I could take a friend out for a treat.
Not only that, but my work situation was super tense and I was able to give myself several months off and live on my savings :)
I've now changed my work situation for the better and am happy as a clam....and I know for a fact that if I had not stopped smoking I would be stuck in that same terrible situation that was killing me - never mind what the smokes were doing to me on top of everything else.
So, where are my savings now? Building up, slowly but surely my bank account is recovering and I feel like a million bucks!
By taking time off, I invested in myself and that is what the quit is all about - investing in myself.
Thanks all, for letting me ramble on a bit ;)

Since I don't own a TV and only catch a bit at work or while visiting someone, maybe I'm not as desensitised as many folks who watch the tube every day....
I saw a really excellent antismoking ad just the other day, here in Canada we have explicit pics of the harmful affects of smoking (some worse than others)right on the pack.
Anyway one of the pics on the pack is of mouth cancer, and I've heard all kinds of ewww gross comments from people who see the pic...
Well this commercial starts with a close up of the pic on the pack and it starts to talk and says 'if you think looking at a picture of mouth cancer on a pack of cigarettes is hard...' the camera backs up a bit revealing a real person talking about the effects of smoking and she talks about chemo and radiation and then she ends with 'if you think quitting smoking is hard. Not quitting is harder.'
It's a total kick ash ad and it makes me glad that I quit whenever I see it...you can feel a shudder go around the room amoung the smokers.
Who else out there has seen a powerful stop smoking ad and what makes you stand up and take notice?
