Truthful antismoking ads...shocking?

Hi Jan, I agree, if I were still a smoker I would feel very vulnerable seeing the powerful ads that are coming out lately...to tell you the truth, they give me a moment of fear too, like, what if I didn't quit soon enough? Smoking looks so innocent and yet it's so potent and deadly. I'm glad that the ads are getting more and more compelling. When I started the big hullabaloo was about lung cancer and I thought to myself that it must take years to get that...and being 15 years old, I thought to myself that something like that would never happen to me. I even thought that quitting would be easy, I thought I would just wean myself off, one less smoke a day until I was down to none HA! i may be smiling but it's still not easy

Heck, I still get a twinge of jealousy when I see someone looking all relaxed puffing away. The thing is, that if I happen to be downwind and get a whiff of the smoke I end up choking on it - which tells me I have no tolerance for it any more and that I definately wouldn't be feeling all relaxed if i were to have one. Smoking was a huge comfort to me sometimes...settled me down when I was angry, took the place of a snack if I had the munchies, greeted me first thing in the morning and got me started on my day no matter how awful I looked or felt, kept me company when I was lonely and was a great drinking buddy. All that aside, it's a deadly and super addictive drug and the companies that market them are always tweaking the product to make it even more addictive, faster. I used to talk about my 97 year old Grandma who smoked until she was 86 and lived a long and healthy life. As if that would make me immune. The fact is, the cigarettes the generations before us were smoking are a far cry from the high potency, toxic, and deadly product we have now. Hang in there sassy, you can make it through this and sadly, there are people who really think it's helpful to minimise someones discomfort and feelings. All the best to you My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/9/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 566 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 22,640 Amount Saved: $11,320.00 Life Gained: Days: 52 Hrs: 10 Mins: 27 Seconds: 43

I never would have believed it

maybe I'm coming down with something, but for the last week whenever I see someone smoking I feel sick to my stomach. That goes for movies as well as passing people on the street or waiting at a bus stop. I never thought I would be a hard liner ex smoker who gets all offended by smokers...and here I am, feeling queezy at the smell. I am beginning to ask myself why did I ever smoke in the first place? I don't like it when that question pops up in my head, because i smoked for 24 years and I'm not ready to think of my foolishness in all its stark reality yet. Anyone else feeling like a fool these days? Just stopping by to say HI!!!!

Hi All, Just dropping in to say I'm still keeping my quit and that I got through the rough patch I had a couple of months ago (with starting a second job and feeling like a smoke would ease the stress a bit). I've come to a place where I can't stand to see smoking. Not on TV in movies on commercials in person. The sight of smoke being inhaled and exhaled repeatedly makes me queezy. This from a die hard I'll never quit 2 pack a day smoker. I also promised myself that I would never be a reformed smoker. To be honest, I used to think that ex smokers were putting me on when they would tell me my smoking was offensive and that I should quit - I even thought to myself that they were jealous that I still smoked and thay didn't. Now here I am, brought to gagging at the sight! I'm keeping my promise to myself though, I simply leave the vicinity. I don't give lectures or insult anyone who is still decieved and held captive by their nicotine addiction. But!!! Whenever anyone says anything like 'I wish I could quit.' I'm in there talking up the online support available and if they're receptive to that I mention that there's a helpline they can call if they want and i leave it at that. Man, it's tough to not go on and on. LOL I'm so happy to see everyone keeping those quits you're all awesome!!! Hi all ! I've stopped smoking yesterday !

Hi FaFa, When I made it through those first 24 hours, I was amazed and so incredibly proud of myself. I hope you're feeling the same way *smile/nudge* It's been a lttle while since you posted, I hope you're still quit...but if you've had a slip or two, please don't be shy to come back, no one will judge you here. We all know how tough it is to beat this addiction....and I have to tell you that once you're for sure free and clear it, life is just so much less annoying! I hope to see you post again soon *hugs* My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/9/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 591 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 23,640 Amount Saved: $11,820.00 Life Gained: Days: 54 Hrs: 17 Mins: 46 Seconds: 29

Being Positive

this couldn't have come at a better time that's for sure :-) I printed it off and plan to carry it with me for a little while. Someone said you never know who your words will touch, well I am deeply touched and what a fluke that I would log on today, and the first post I read was this one! thanks all! I haven't been sick a day since I quit

Ok, maybe I could have titled this post differently. Many people I know went through really rough health problems like endless coughing, aches, pains, and flu like symptoms when they stopped smoking. I was dreading the idea of a quit...but...my horrible bone wracking smokers cough went away the very day I stopped smoking and I haven't had a problem since!! My immune system seems to have stepped up to the plate too as I haven't even had a cold. However, I do notice that my lung capacity is low. I can't sing an entire song as I can't seem to take a deep enough breath, and I still get a little breathless after climbing stairs (4 flights over and over again at work). I think I need to get more excersise. I walk quite a bit, but don't do much of anything else....I used to play the flute and still have it tucked away in the back of my closet. Time to do some wind excersises! Anyway back to the topic at hand...the not being sick part. I feel like an anomily and I fear appearing bragadocious. I'm just wondering if there is anyone else out there who had a significant and unexpected turn for the better health wise when they stopped smoking? If anything, I notice that the lining of my nostrils has puffed out a bit making breathing through my nose difficult, and I've had to switch to a softer tooth brush as my gums bleed easily. I also drink far more fluids than I did before I quit because my voice cuts out if I don't. Other than that - nothing Ok, I will now start ducking tomatoes My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/9/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 593 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 23,720 Amount Saved: $11,860.00 Life Gained: Days: 54 Hrs: 21 Mins: 4 Seconds: 25
