Super idea Phil. Since I did a lot of my smoking in the car, I now keep a special treat waiting for me in the car. It usually is something like a blow pop or a bag of sunflower seeds. My sister shared this trick with me and it has really helped. Bumping for the newbies. Great tips! I'm a newbie too, but when I crave I breathe deeply and as I slowly exhale I mentally tell that junkie voice to get lost, I'm in control now. :) Pat Quit or try dying My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Hi, What helps me is just thinking, "I am a strong person and I can do this",I know it's hard, but I know I am strong, stubborn, and if I set my mind to something I can do it.Then everyday that I do not smoke I am just REALLY proud of myself..:) Good Luck everyone and stay strong... When I get a bad crave and need to stop it in it's path I throw on my coat, grab my disc man and head out for a long long walk and think of all that is good in my life! I think of the positives... It always works for me :) Monica58 My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/31/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 63 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,266 Amount Saved: $567 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 2 Mins: 52 Seconds: 4

The single thing that's helped me most (beside posting on this forum) is having a positive thought ready to counteract the thoughts of smoking that I can't seem to avoid. These are not real craves, but just remembering times when I would have smoked and don't any more. When the thought of having a cigarette comes to me, I automatically say "N.O.P.E. Not one puff ever." By the time I've repeated it a few times I'll be distracted by something else and the smoking thoughts will have been chased away. These remnants of an old habit have been my downfall before, so I'm happy for this way to overcome them.
