And He Coughs Part II

18 years ago 0 150 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Lady- just got through reading this thread. My husband is older than your dad and can't and won't quit. Right now I hear him coming in the door from smoking outside. He has a terrible cough, but just won't quit. It is hard for me to talk about it, so I never have, and probably won't again. I hope hope your dad is quitting!! xx SILVER My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 177 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,323 Amount Saved: $1150.5 Life Gained: Days: 24 Hrs: 16 Mins: 26 Seconds: 1

If he can't find it go out & buy him another "Allen Carr book" it really works..... don't make a big fuss over it you'll scare him off quitting. just ask him if he's reading it every now & then. ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 426 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 10,667 Amount Saved: $2769 Life Gained: Days: 61 Hrs: 3 Mins: 19 Seconds: 0

Lady, I'm just now seeN this shocking, yet wonderful news :) I'll be honest it makes me just a little sad. Only because it hit's very close to home and reminds me of dad. (you know the details so I'll not go there) However, it IS inspiring too. *I'm feeling mixed emotions~lol* I am sending serious positive vibes and prayers your way! :) ~all the best 2 My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/20/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 201 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,443 Amount Saved: $1005 Life Gained: Days: 19 Hrs: 4 Mins: 0 Seconds: 54

Awesome! Hopefully the Allen Carr book will be the final spur he needs. Just be there for support. Nagging didn't work for me. Only a quiet sense of determination. Mc

Repetition and determination often resemble each other. Sometimes the former becomes the latter. Always encourage and never disparage. So, this is Day 1? Forgive me, I missed the very early beginnings of your story. Are we talking "old-school dad", P(like mine,i.e. hard-headed,) or Progressive-dad (willing to hear new innovations/opinions)? Mc

Lady, I'm here [unusually] if you want to chat. How old is your dad, if you don't mind my asking? Mc

Sorry I'm a little late, have been pre-occupied with family problems. Glad to hear your news about Dad. Don't push him too much, just be there for him like you were for all of us. Thanks for asking Redrosie... I really don't know how Dad is doing. I haven't seen much of him the past couple of days as he has already gone to bed by the time I get in from class. I believe he is still smoking at least a few a day. I don't ask anymore. He refuses to use the patch so that kind of lets me know that he really isn't serious about this quit. Purhaps one day he will quit. I'm moving foward and letting him do what he needs to do. Thanks for all your support. Keep up the Great Quit you have there! Redrosie... just talked to dad. He said the quit day if Friday. We shall see. I didn't ask, he volunteered the information on his own. We all know that getting started is the hardest part. It took me over six months to get going. We just never know. When the time is right, if it is meant to be, it will happen.
