Obviously invented by a non-smoker. Like anyone who just quit smoking could put a piece of gum, or anything for that matter, in their mouth and not chew the (blank) out of it. Pretty funny! David, if thats Nicotine gum you're taking about you're not supposed to chew tha crap out of it ! ;) I found out recently that you're supposed to place the nicotine gum under your tongue & leave it there so that the nicotine in the gum is absorbed into the bloodstream via the mouth lining. This absorbtion helps reduce nicotine withdrawl. I remember i got a serious case of the hickups & heartburn & not to mention a saw jaw from chewing like crazy when i tried this once, it was funny at the time. keep busy & drink lots of water / orange juice. HI David! Congrats on your quit! You are doing good! The first week is the worst, things get better after that and fairly fast. It really helps to shake up your routine, just rearrange things a little, makes everything feel brand new and the cravings vanish then. Members have given you lots of tips here, read all you can too, this site is so full of wonderful tips, facts and wisdom. You're doing it! Good on you! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 179 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,475 Amount Saved: $1,888.45 Life Gained: Days: 21 Hrs: 21 Mins: 9 Seconds: 12

Hi Alohakeia, Kiwi, Kelly and all other fellow quitters :-) Greetings from Bangkok, Thailand and thanks a lot for your notes, which I really enjoy and motivate me!!! Only a few hours before the end of my 5th day, then the week-end and then the Heck week start !!! Can't wait. Besides that my jaws are taking a serious beatting with the gum :-) I start to feel some improvments in my carvings though besides new "rashes" I seem to develop from time to time... Will wait a few more days and see. Week-end will be at home or I even considering to come to work so that I do not think too much. For sure sports will be on the menu. Wishing you strong will power and continued NOPE Cheers and keep in touch David My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 5 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 100 Amount Saved: $300.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 17 Mins: 16 Seconds: 57

Hi David Sounds like you are right on track.....what are you telling yourself when the "feeling" hits? I hope it's something about being a non smoker and how even though it feels like you want a cig, you wouldn't dream of actually smoking one, because you're a nonsmoker, and nonsmokers don't smoke...ever!!! Also, I hope you are being kind to yourself, giving yourself little treats, taking relaxing showers or baths, going for walks, watching movies, congratulating yourself for each time you resist the urge. It does get better, I promise you. Especially if you can look at this as a wonderful gift you are giving yourself. Please let us know if there is any information or support you need. We are all in this together and love to help each other. Have a wonderful day (is GMT+5 east of England?) I think I am GMT-11, but not sure about that My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 162 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,480 Amount Saved: $1,101.60 Life Gained: Days: 22 Hrs: 14 Mins: 21 Seconds: 15

Gudday there David, i'm GMT+12 so basically when i'm here, most members are in noddy land!... be assured that people are reading your posts. The key to staying quit is to arm yourself with copious amounts of knowledge & the SCC is a great forum to discuss & learn this. I will mention to you that although there is quite a variety of 'Quit aids' used these days, there is one thing that remains the same for all us quittees.. we are all addicted to a highly addictive drug called nicotine. Be strong & focus on the fact you don't need to smoke to live or should i say live to smoke.
