David,
If you use the patch, some members have advised of sleepless nights and vivid dreams. You may want to take it off before bed and slap it on first thing in the morning.
Some people experience sleep disruption during this period. It is usually related to the physical withdrawal of nicotine. Although uncomfortable, it is normal. Your body is readjusting. In most cases, it will stop shortly.
If it persists more than a few days or is severe, check with your doctor.
Note: Keep in mind that psychological withdrawal symptoms can also cause sleep disturbance. For example, you can lie awake feeling frustrated or anxious knowing that you aren't having that first cigarette upon awakening. Your routine has changed where you aren't anticipating that cigarette anymore. The solution would be to have something in place to do upon arising. Perhaps taking a shower right away or exercising would be beneficial.
TIPS
-Exercising can help to manage your withdrawal easier overall.
-Watch your caffeine intake, especially after 6 pm. Drink decaffeinated coffee or herbal teas.
-A routine to relax your body at night helps some people fall asleep. Use deep breathing and relaxing techniques and begin an evening ritual.
Hope this helps,
