Dear Lady, Sorry I am coming in a little late here as I just found this thread. Do what you tell us to do... Take a deep breath, stand in your own power, and speak your truth, whatever that truth is. You cannot do his quit for him, BUT you can be there for him. And whatever he chooses, he chooses. YOU have the right and the responsibility to set boundaries, for you and for your family. Trust yourself and trust your intuition, Lady. You know this journey, you know the nooks and the crannies. The hidden trap doors, and the Light at the end of the tunnels on this journey. Trust yourself! Stand for your truth. And let your dad know that you love him and you are there for his Quit when and if he is ready to make that journey. And that it's also time for you to stand for your truth. What a wonderful opportunity for you both to honour where each of you is in this process...and at the same time, stand for yourselves, each of you, stand for your truth... He does not have to agree, neither do you with him. Love is love, and love is messy, Lady. And you can do this... You have changed my life dear one, with your wisdom and your support. You can change yours and his. Come here and process with us, it's safe and sacred here... And tomorrow is another day, Lady... Blessings and Love- Healer xox My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 15 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 528 Amount Saved: $36 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 22 Mins: 58 Seconds: 16

Lady You are one of the most supportive and least dramatic voices out there. Your Dad is asking you for something, take him up on it. Use the same voice and speak to him in the same loving, tough, caring way that you speak to these thousands out here. He may hate you for it and if you help him to quit and you give him a few more moments of time you might just love yourself all the more for the loving and supportive act that you gave to this man who is asking you for help. Lady-you have been so supportive of everyone here, it is my pleasure to listen to/read whatever you need to say to get through this. My husband and I quit within 5 days of each other, so I know that grumphy old men sometimes suck :eg: He would kill me for that lol! What great news Lady, I'm very happy for you and your Dad! BFS said almost exactly what I think, but I suggest maybe making him up his own "quit meter." Something that could be out in full view, like on the fridge that he gets to change himself everyday. I have found it hugely helpful and motivational. You will both be in my thoughts. Let us know on the 11th how he ended it all. Good God, that didn't sound right did it? lol. You know what I mean!! Lady, I am so glad to hear your Dad is sticking to his word. How excited and nervous you both must be. I have had great success with the patch. Just make sure he takes it off a 1/2 hour before bed, because boy you can sure get some strange, scary dreams. We definately don't want to give him any excuses to stop using the patch.(uhn, uhn). Also it is very normal (but irritating) for him to feel itchy at the patch site for about 20 min. It does fade though. Some of my patch sites also were red for a day or two after it was removed, also normal. You will both be in my thoughts as I expect you are going to have to be a very patient, loving, strong, gentle, frustrated, emotional, busy daughter in the next weeks. lol. Keep Strong Lady, we are here when you need to vent.
