Small Steps Equal Success

I'm new here and feel that people are welcoming.

I think even in a society where we are more open to discuss problems, people still like to keep things to themselves.

When I first saw a counselor in college after I almost went off the road in my car, I told no one for months. I did not want anyone to think I was crazy or something. Only one friend knew, because he was also seeing a counselor.

Today, I try to be more open my family and my 2 closest friends. I told them I was seeing a therapist and after I did, how they wanted me to see someone about being diagnosed and if I needed medication or not.

I'm also trying to make changes in my own life, such as eating better. I was working out 3 to 5 times a week until a couple weeks ago when I started going downhill. I'm hoping to get back into a routine. I was tracking my calories and keeping an eye on what I was eating, but I feel the need to go more organic now or slowly cut some of the bad foods out. I am thinking that at times the preservatives and other things in food are not meant for us to really consume.  My therapist suggested walking after work. Even if it means just getting out of my car and walking for a few minutes. I might try it today, depending if it is raining. I just been so tired lately, that I go home and lay down and don't get up. I know it is because I have not been eating a lot, therapist said to try and force myself to eat several small meals through out the day. I'm trying to remember to track my calories again, just to make sure I am getting at least 1200 a day.

I want to start feeling better and I know it will take time. I am not as patient as I used to be. I know I need to take small steps to get myself out of my mood and this cycle I am in.

This site is like group therapy and some people may feel better talking on here then in a real group. It's too bad we do not have a chat room. I think having a thread where we can talk is good though.

Davit,
I would never think of this group as a game or old boys club or any of that..I am here because having the support helps me and I think my sharing may help someone who is reading. I think we have encouraged new members to join in may time. We have done our part.

My mother had a saying for situations like this and she would have said:

"You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink"..

Now I will give you one of my favorites.

"We have done our part, Now let God do the rest"...

It does seem we have been remiss in not asking new members what they would like. Lord I hope we don't look like an old boys club or any sort of club for that matter. It is an open forum. Hmmmmm. I hope we don't look like fools playing a game here, we certainly are not and we are not selling anything. Maybe because it is free they think it can't work. Well that would be a mistake. CBT does work. No wild promises and testimonials just the simple fact that CBT is proven to work.

What ever works to get them to at least give this a try, what can they lose.

Davit,

I wish we could too.  Maybe if they happen by and read your post they will stop in and join in the group or maybe some new people will join in the group..It would be great if we had more members and could in increase the number of thoughts and ideas in the group..

If anyone is reading here today feel free to speak up and join in the conversation. We would love to have you join in with you feeling, thoughts and ideas..

Maybe we should start a tread called Group Therapy or In Session, or Therapy In Session and have it on certain days or we could have a Drop In Group which would be On Going and people could Drop In and contribute what and whenever they wanted to..We could have One or Both of these group.

What do you think Davit?

Anyone reading here, what do you think?  Having a opinion makes you a immediate participating member of the group? So please feel free to speak up and join the group with your thoughts and ideas. Your participation can make this a much more interesting and diversified group. With lots of threads and topics of discussion..

I was thinking this morning that this forum is very close to group therapy. I was also thinking that people are far more willing to open up than they were years ago. I wish we could get some of the people that left back again to increase the number of ideas in the group.

Well I have always thought you have a poor medical system.

Davit and Hugs...I mean to type, Thank You for you input..So Thank you my friends...

I am not sure what is going on with me but I am having a harder time typing complete words, sentences, and do seem to be getting my sentence structure out of order more and more these days, so please bare with me and try to fill in the blanks when trying to reads my posts..Whats strange is I think it correctly in my mind but when I go to type it gets mixed up sometimes. Even when I proof read it, I see it as correct sometimes just like when I am thinking and typing it but I fail to see the mistakes sometimes and lately it is a lot of the time is seems..I have a good brain the wiring just seems to get tangled up sometimes..Very Strange.

Davit and Hugs. for your input.

I think because I am isolated most of the time and don't have a lot of contact with others in the outside world it is easy to forget what is considered due diligence and I do find myself questioning my action and second guessing myself when I shouldn't. This is another reason this support is so important for those of us that are affected by anxiety, panic, agoraphobia or ptsd.. This forum and support group give us someone to talk to and bounce things off of.  This is especially important when it is hard to get outside amongst others on a regular basis.. This giving and sharing that we do here in the group helps keep me in tuned with what is real and what isn't and also with what is acceptable and what isn't..It make me stronger and brings me down to Earth when my world seems to be spinning out of control and I am doubting myself..and things that foreign to me seems to coming at me from all directions..

P.S.
I wish we had socialized medicine like they have in Canada..Here do not have a right to a paid third oppinion and a second one is only paid for if the insurance company felt that you needed it. It doesn't matter what you think or want it all. I all has to due with money, power and control here in the states. Another that is different here in the U.S. the doctors don't have to see you or have you as a patient if they don't like you or you ask to many questions. This is a fact for us here..On other thing is that we are supposed to have a Patients Bill of Rights put it is never inforced because there is not one to inforce. It is just for show and means nothing..If you ask to many questions or don't do as you are told you get black balled by the doctors and not of them want you as a patient. So you live in fear of have now health care even if you do have insurance..

Hi Loves Trees,
I'm similar, in that something can keep me upset for some time, maybe since I'm so isolated.  If I could use more time to get out, it might help develop the "emotional shock absorbers" that others have from their social circles.  They're just stuff that "needs" to be done.  Also, my only outside activity is tai chi, and that might be starting me to get out again.

Questioning meds is just due diligence Red, and  many people regret starting stuff which affect other meds, or just can reverse the situation, such as in addiction.

I liked Davit's coping by seeing the world as apples and oranges

This doctor seems okay.  A very good rain coat to wear is remembering that you have a right to their service and without their clients they wouldn't have a job so don't let them intimidate you. You have a right to fair service. You have a right to ask anything you want and get the best answer they have. You have a right to a second even third opinion. On the other hand you have an obligation to be polite, even if they are not. As an orange you do this for you.
Dealing with ignorant people the same way they treat you makes you an apple too. Don't lose your orange status to their attitude. Becoming an apple because you are upset will only create more stress. Put up your umbrella between you and them and find someone else. If there is no one else you will have to let down your umbrella some so you can be persistent. Like that first word a child learns and drives you crazy with, "why". And never forget that you have a right to answers.

But these are Canadian rules. They know I have rights even if I'm not paying. You are in the land of the free (people that is) Surely you have as much right as me.

One other rain coat is knowing that thinking of doctors as superior is only conditioning. A learned idea akin to a core belief. They are only human too just with more learning. That knowledge is yours by right of the condition of their job.

Expecting things to go wrong is normal, expecting to be treated like an imbecile is normal. Knowing it is not so is intelligent and one step closer to dealing with apples, no matter what their field. Try to wait till after seeing them to know if it was right. That is the time to be disappointed, not before. After all there is a good chance you won't be.

Hi loves trees,

Thanks loves trees, I agree being sensitive is a positive trait and because of our sensitivity we are able to care for and about others. This is a special gift I think..having humanity for other people and caring about their feeling. We would never want to change that about ourselves. Maybe some of humanity towards others will rub off on the Apples out there..
