Is this Anxiety?

Minnesota,

If the feeling of tightness and dizziness persists I would highly recommend going to see your family doctor. You may also want to try some breathing exercises when you are feeling anxious or nervous, that might help.

Situation

Miki,

There is no reason for you to feel embarrassed. Everyone is going through the same thing, and we are all here for the same reason, to help, support, listen to, and encourage one another. You will not be judged for posting how you are feeling or what you are going through, because there is most likely someone else who is going through the exact same thing.
How are you feeling today?

Effects of Massage Therapy on Stress

Members,

Our focus in recent weeks has been on stress management. The positive effects of massage therapy have been widely studied in children, adults & older adults. The listed benefits from head to toe include:

°          Decreased incidence of headaches related to tension.

°          Improved mood, decreased anxiety. Children with autism showed a decrease in problem behaviors.

°          Improved circulation & decreased blood pressure. In surgical patients, faster healing & recovery rates were noted.

°          Better posture, decrease muscle tension, joint pain, range of motion. In pregnant women it helps alleviate discomfort.

°          Better sleeping patterns in babies, children & adults.

Have any members found this therapy beneficial?

medication or not?

cael,

Have you thought about making an appointment with your family doctor to discuss medication options and what might be right for you?

Heart fluttering

Jo,

I agree with cornish-dee, you should visit your family doctor just to make sure everything is ok, and to give yourself peace of mind. In terms of work, I think that it is great that you are going to start a new job. Like cornish-dee said, you might actually enjoy your job! It will be a change, but it sounds like you are preparing youself for it.
Does anybody have any positive stories regarding a job change that you can share with Jo?

Do you need a holiday?

cornish-dee,

You are right, you are fortunate to live in a seaside town! Maybe you should plan day trip for yourself and your family. A day at the beach with a picnic, or a day out at the park and dinner and a movie would make for a wonderful mini holiday.

Stress Relievers

darkblue & johnnyo,

Great ideas! I especially like the idea of using an audio journal and listening back to your own words in order to allow the emotions to come out more than they wold on paper. Excellent idea.

Anybody else have any great stress relievers they want to share?

discussions with authority figures

johnnyo,

I think that it is great that you are able to recognize how important dialogue can be, and knowing that you fear repercussions is half the battle to being able to overcome these fears.
What do you feel is the worst that can happen?  When and if you are having anxious thoughts, here are some questions that can help you to challenge these thoughts.
When you have an anxious thought, answer some of these 10 questions:

1. Is it "true"?
2. How do I know it’s true?
3. Is it 100% true? (remember something that is 75% or 99% true is
    not 100% true)
4. What's the evidence for it being true?
5. What’s the evidence against it being true?
6. Has it ever happened before?
7. What's different now?
8. If it were true, how bad would it really be?
9. What's the worst thing that could happen?
10. If the worst thing happened, how bad would it really be?

Members, please feel free to add any tips or strategies you find helpful when trying to challenge your anxious thoughts.
