JohnnyO,

A great tip! Inexpensive and most of the time the students are supervised.

in the last city that I lived,  I used to go to the Shiatsu college.  Students who were learning to do Shiatsu massage needed people to practice on.  By the time they took on public clients they had a year of classroom training and practicing on their classmates.  In the city I live now,  the massage college has the same kind of public clinic with all kinds of inexpensive massage and spa treatments.  I would encourage people to seek out training centres to see if they run similar clinics.  I know the college of Chinese Medicine has one too where they practice accupuncture.  Accupuncture has been added to the acceptable medical treatment for public health insurance here.

there are varieties of massage too,  i had one recently called Jin Shin Do which combines modalities and becomes a form of somatic therapy.  I just picked up a book on self massage.  I may try it with some of my aroma therapy oils.

So many things we can do to increase our ability to live in wellness.

Hi

Massage therapy is an amazing source of relaxation for me.  Human touch is so healing and with the right practitioner the release of negative energy can be almost overwhelming at times.... I would recommend this to anyone who carries their anxiety like I do in your shoulders / neck / head!   Combined with aromatherapy it can melt everything away... even if only for awhile...

I also use Peppermint Halo for all my tension headaches.  I suffered from headaches / migraines for years and this has been a godsend... Takes away 95% of the pain.. and it smells delicious.. What could be better?!...

I used massage with our daughter too... after baths with lavender or other calming essential oils.. Did amazing things for her sleep.  My little guy too now loves to be rubbed... and it makes for great quality time with them.. Touch nurtures the soul...

I could use a massage now after talking about it... I'm sure I must have a gift certificate still kicking around.. hopefully ;)

Members,

Our focus in recent weeks has been on stress management. The positive effects of massage therapy have been widely studied in children, adults & older adults. The listed benefits from head to toe include:

°          Decreased incidence of headaches related to tension.

°          Improved mood, decreased anxiety. Children with autism showed a decrease in problem behaviors.

°          Improved circulation & decreased blood pressure. In surgical patients, faster healing & recovery rates were noted.

°          Better posture, decrease muscle tension, joint pain, range of motion. In pregnant women it helps alleviate discomfort.

°          Better sleeping patterns in babies, children & adults.

Have any members found this therapy beneficial?
