Day 2

You are doing fantastic!! I'm so glad you can feel the benefits all ready. I found it hard to walk up the stairs too. I, like you felt the need to stop bigger than the need to smoke. That is all you need to think to succeed! Well done you. Thinking of you, take care.. :) :) Claire xx My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 157 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,932 Amount Saved: 863.5 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 15 Mins: 48 Seconds: 29

Help, please.

That's right we do care. We know what you're going through better than anyone! :) Day 150, day 70, day 40 or day 3 - they can all have the worst ever craves and pangs. We know how hard it is and would like to help, Pat. Now I'm addicted to FOOD!!

Thanks kiwi and windy. :) I am feeling a bit better today. I think you may be right kiwi. I think there was still part of me that was still missing it and kind of clinging to the memory. Thanks for saying that about my stats.. I think yours are amazing!! What I said about how I should change something is to do with my partner... Something that will have to be dealt with if I want to be really happy. Sorry nothing to do with smoking or over eating but is part of my reason for feeling down. Windy. Your stats are amazing too. Blimey. Don't give in will you? You are doing so well. :) I hope you are having a good weekend windy. Did you go any where nice? I agree with you we do need something that makes us feel better at the end of the day. A nice attentive man would be a good start, lol! I've bought some rice cakes, I'm hoping the fact that they are so boring will quieten my need to eat in the evening. Fingers crossed.. ;) I hope we all catch up soon, lovely chatting with you all. Take care and have fun where you can! :) :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 158 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,967 Amount Saved: 869 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 18 Mins: 28 Seconds: 19

Now I'm addicted to FOOD!!

I'm really happy that I've given up the cigs. I really am, lol. But I am so fed up that I have swapped it for food. Before I gave up smoking I put on two stone because I had a hernia and was worried, after I had the op for that I managed to lose two stone easily... I gave up smoking and now I'm a stone heavier again. It doesn't sound much but it could be more. I can tell it is some sort of psychological response to giving up the cigarettes but not sure how to deal with it. When I stopped smoking I stopped completely. Obviously. But with eating you can't STOP completely, can you? So I find it hard to stop eating rubbish because that is all I seem to crave. Maybe because I know I can eat it I am letting myself.. I'm just so annoyed with myself!! I want to wear some nice clothes for the summer. I went out the other weekend and four, yes FOUR people asked me when I was due!! lol I shall have to take the advice I gave someone here about having some carrot sticks and celery ready for use in the day.. but then I think I ewould still crave crisps.. ..I can see that I really have swapped the addiction. It's funny just typing my thoughts out here are helping me get through to the problem. I hope no-one minds me using this thread as a way to do that. :) If you want to add any ideas to help me think it through please, please do! :) Thanks. Now I'm addicted to FOOD!!

I'm sorry if some of it doesn't make sense but it is gone 1am and I'm pretty tired. Didn't realise that was the time! Must go to bed. My son's 6th birthday in the morning, so he'll probably be up soon. Now I'm addicted to FOOD!!

:) Thanks Windy, Changing and Danielle. I think maybe I'm fairly depressed as it is anyway without including quitting smoking. Thanks for understanding me. :) I know what I should be doing.. it's just finding the enthusiasm inside myself to do it! I have no motivation. I used to but I haven't found a way to fill the void that quitting smoking has left. If I am busy doing something I am fine but when I stop I don't know what to do? So I think of food. I don't think of cigarettes really any more, but food! Thanks for your help. :) Windy, feel free to vent! :) :) Let's vent together!! ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 156 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,917 Amount Saved: 858 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 14 Mins: 33 Seconds: 5

Quiting is Easier Than

Quitting is easier than .. waiting for xray results from a chest xray. Standing in the room outside waiting for them to tell me that I can go. I know they can't tell me what the results are but I wonder if there will be a look of pity on the womans face when she comes to tell me I can go... Easier than the ride home from the hospital in the car with my three children - 5, 6, 9 - in the back and knowing that I havbe to wait a week for the results, knowing that if they did come back positive it would be my fault. Thankfully they came back clear.. but I know that it is not always the case for most people. I felt so incredibly happy and sad when I got my results. Happy for myself and yet so very , very sad for people who don't get that 'all clear' message. I am concerned about my quit...

You're doing great!! :) I found that the thing I missed most about smoking is the calming effect.. but when you really think about it the nicotine doesn't actually calm you it is supposed to get you moving. So I realised that the relaxation part of it was the deep breathing that you do when smoking. When you draw your breath in and hold it and then slowly breathe out through your mouth. Just doing that can calm you. So if you feel a bit stressed instead of thinking of cigs as the answer try some deep breathing. It works. And remember now you have started your quit YOU are in charge!! NOT those disgusting, stinking cigarettes! That is the BEST thing ever, not having to be beholden to them as to where I go or worry about finding somewhere to have one.. They don't control us anymore, we can take back control. Excellent isn't it?! :) :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 155 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,895 Amount Saved: 852.5 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 12 Mins: 55 Seconds: 26

Hello, I am new.

Hi Lou :) I wish you the very best of luck with it. You sound positive and that is great. Please remember that nicotine is only a small (ish) part of the addiction. A lot of it is psychological. It does actually feel, I think, a lot like grieving - what do others think? I got through it, somehow, lol, not sure how just did I guess! Coming out the other side now and feeling great. When I have a cold now it goes really quickly, whereas before I'd be coughing for a good couple of weeks after. Although you may find your body trying to get rid of some gunk in the first couple of weeks. Try and drink a bit more to start with. ;) Coming onto this site really helped me too. Just reading other peoples support for others really helped. I think because we can all understand where we are coming from it makes it nice to think you can be understood. :) Try to make some carrot stick or celery nibbles to see you through the day in the morning. That might help you, that way you are only snacking on good things and will help you feel more positive about yourself. :) Take care and good luck! Withdrawals are killing me HELP!!!!!

Excellent advice there. I had patches for two weeks then gave up with them. You can quit cold turkey. It's the stress that causes most of the effects not the lack of nicotine. Avalleymom I think is spot on with what she says about clenching your jaw. Tension can cause all sorts of complaints. I was dizzy and light headed on NRT for two weeks and when I came off there was no real difference. I just needed to know I was in control.. but that is just what is best for me. Take care and good luck!! :) Claire xx My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 156 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,917 Amount Saved: 858 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 14 Mins: 34 Seconds: 8
