The companies that make the patches are quite happy for people to believe that you need help to quit because they make money from you. But YOU really DON'T. :) :)
Patches are a placebo.
The person quitting is you! It is only you that stops yourself from putting a cigarette in your mouth.
I think the patches make you feel as though you need them when you really don't. It is hard to quit on patches, is it not? Of course it is! Just the same as going cold turkey!!
I just think it's a shame that people say they only managed to quit because of the patches. They should be congratulating themselves because they quit, they managed it by themselves. That is an amazing achievement!!!
Remember nicotine is only part of the addiction.
Sorry, rant over.. *creeps away quietly, with head down..* :)

That is a hard time. Hopefully you shall be able to feel slightly smug ;) when you see your work mates go off for a cigarette. Haha! You may feel the pangs of craving but they won't last. They can be very strong but knowing what you go through in the first few days you will know that you can manage to get over them. :)
Try not to eat rubbish. I did really well to start with. It was when I thought I was getting over the worst of it that I started to eat more than I should inbetween meals.
Just keep the knowledge inside you that it WILL get easier. It may seem like it will always be difficult at times, but it really does get better. I'm looking forward to getting past six months. :) As I look back over what I've gone through I can see the changes in myself. All for the better! :)
You are doing an incredibly wonderful thing for yourself and your loved ones. You will feel proud of your strength and willpower. Hang on to those feelings.
Take care.

Fantastic!! :)
I've only just heard of 'Chantix'. Is it fairly new or is it something that is mainly only used in America?

Thanks JDK. I know I'm not going to ever use it, but people who I know who still smoke might not have heard of it either. I think doctors over here tend to reccommend NRT as a be all and end all. I do think basic will power is needed no matter what you use though.

I just feel so very sad for them that the craving took hold of them so badly.
I remember a few weeks into my quit I was dreaming about having a cigarette. I would dream of walking to the shop and buying a packet, walking home, sitting in my conservatory, taking the wraper off and taking a drag on it!! I woke up feeling so bad!! I really felt as though I had given in for a little while.
Thankfully I'm still not smoking. :)
I found around the 40 day mark quite difficult, especially after feeling for a while as though I was getting better.
I feel more in control of my life now. That is a fantastic feeling!!
I was on the strongest patch for two weeks.. and just decided that as I was going through hell even with the patch I thought I might as well stop using them and beat the habit all by myself. As it was myself that stopped me walking into the shop to by the blasted things not the patch!!
I was worried that I was doing the wrong thing but it did work for me. I had some set by in case I decided I needed one on. But to be honest I think I had got past the very worst of times by then. I did have some withdrawal but they could have been more psychological. I needed to know that I was the one stopping myself from smoking because I was worried that when I stopped the patches I would feel as bad. I really didn't.
I'm sure you'll be fine. Deep breathing exercises. ;) :) You are doing fantastic.

Hi.
You are doing amazingly! Just keep in your mind that whatever your body is going through now is your bodies way of getting rid of all that sludge! You are purging your body of all the rubbish and you will be so much healthier at the end of it all! :)
Drink plenty of water - I forgot to do that and I think it may have helped.
Keep it up, you're doing great!
(Things have changed since I was last on. How do I add on my mileage?)
