I think that is one of the most frightening things about lung cancer, there are no pain receptors in the lungs, so by the time you are aware there is anything wrong it is too late.
Also is if as smokers we last to old age what would life be like for us?
Our lungs could find it hard to fill with oxygen so we end up with no energy to enjoy our retirement.
We might have to lose a toe/foot/leg, because we've restricted the blood flow to the extremities for so long.
That actually made my mum stop smoking because her father ended up with gangrene in one of his feet, because the blood supply had shut off, and my mum noticed her little toe was starting to go black.
Heart attack risk. If you survive one you wonder when the next will come, like my father.
I'd rather go through quitting now than wait until I have to. :)

That was a lovely read. Completely agree with you! :)
I know just what you mean Sharon. I feel more in control of my life. As though it is me who makes the decisions now and not dependent on the bloody weed. I have to deal with problems on my own without needing anything else to get me through. It is liberating. :)

Thanks guys! It's nice that some of us have quit on the same day. :)
Thanks Sharon(McLaughlin), What you said makes good sense. I shall try to do that. :)
I think a lot of people who don't know what it's like to give up think that by now it shouldn't be so hard. But when the crave comes it can seem very hard, because of length of time since the last bad urge for one.
Congrats to you to Kaitilina and Everyone!!!

Hi Light!! :)
You are doing fantastic.
Don't worry too much about your weight. I am trying my best not to worry about mine. Take one thing at a time. If I eat lots of unhealthy snacks during the day I refuse to feel bad about them, because at least I haven't smoked.
In time when you feel better about quitting then you can concentrate on your weight.
I think I've put on about 4 or 5lbs, but I know I can get that off within a couple of weeks.
I munch on sugar free mints, which are good for when you take your relaxing deep breaths, because the air seems so fresh in your healthier lungs!
Keep up the good work! :)

All I can say is I was completely muddled at the time, lol. :)

Thanks guys! :) It brought a tear to my eye reading your replies.. Sorry, I'm in that sort of a mood today. ;)
If I feel happy I don't feel like eating. What you were saying about hunger being the same as nicotine addiction, I agree, before I quit I was smoking more and more and somedays I was finishing one packet in the morning, smoking another packet all the way through and then starting another packet in the evening!
I heard something about how having a food addiction (and I think possibly all addictions) is a way of suppressing our feelings - keeping them out of the way. I think there are things that I would like to change but I can't find a way of doing these things without hurting many people around me. It doesn't matter what these things are that I feel I need to do to make me happy, just that they are there. I don't know if any other fellow 'sufferers' (for want of a better word :) feel that way about anything in their lives. Something that they just can't bear to think about because it hurts too much?
I'm having one of those days! :) :)
