Hi all! I'm not new, but I am returning!

I'm Betty2, I moved to FL last year, and I lost my link to this group in the process. I have searched for it all along, but couldn't find it until stumbled on it today. But, I couldn't remember my previous login info...so I'm starting all over again! I quit smoking September 4, 2006...and even though I've been AWOL to this group, I am STILL a NON smoker! But, I've really come back here to see if I can help any new *Quitters* to maintain. I'm glad I finally found my way back here! I just wish I could find my original login info...but, oh well! Betty2

Hello! I'm new to the group!

This is my original post when I joined on September 15, 2006. Does anyone know how I can get my original info back? I don't have a clue as to my email or password, DUH! :confuse: Betty2

Hi all! I'm not new, but I am returning!

Ok, I send a message via feedback...I hope you can find the info, because I had my glove box finished, and my quit story too! Infact it was my copy of the quit story that helped me find my way back here, LOL! Thanks! Betty2

Hi all! I'm not new, but I am returning!

My BIGGEST help with my quit is called Wrigley's Green Apple Gum!!! LOL! I should buy stock in the stuff to get some of my money back!!! At first, I went through4 packs of the stuff a day because every time I had the urge to smoke, I popped TWO sticks of the gum in my mouth, and chewed it for about 30 minutes, and replaced it with TWO more sticks! I almost ALWAYS had the gum in my mouth! And, each time the urge hit me again, I threw out the old, and popped in more new. Now, a year later...I still chew it occasionally, but not as frquently! Dum Dum sour apple suckers work fine for me now! I guess another GOOD thing for me is, I have been by myself, and haven't had too much of smokers around me! But, when I go to the store, and smell someone smoking a cigarette...it gags me to death! And, I have had to throw away things (like my favorite purse) that were impossible to get the smell out of...even with Febreze, Lysol, and any other so called odor emliminator! I am so glad I quit! Good luck to those that are just beginning! And, take it from one that tried for 29 YEARS before I succeeded...it is rough going, but it CAN be done! Betty2

Hi! I am new here :)

AJ, when you decide to smoke...try Wrigley's Sour Apple gum instead of the smoke! When I first quit 15 months ago, I traded my smokes for the gum, and it really worked! Since you use Chantix, it should be a little easier for you, because I just went cold turkey with the gum! At first, I went through 4 - 5 packs of gum a day, and almost ALWAYS had it in my mouth. Now, I buy a pack or 2 every once in a while, chew it once in a while...but, I like the Dum Dum sour apple suckers better! I tried for 29 YEARS to quit without much success, but I have now been smoke free for over 15 months! I feel better, smell better, breathe better, and AM better without them! Good Luck! Betty2

Hi all! I'm not new, but I am returning!

OK! Here I am with my original member info back in place! I'm still Betty2, though! So, I don't guess it matters which one you guys respond too...it should post anyway...I HOPE! But, I'm so glad to be back on the group now! I hope I can help those that need it! But, I'm telling every one...my success is due to my trusty *friends*...Wrigley's Green Apple gum, 1/2 & 1/2 mix of Celestial Seasonings Green Tea (Decaffeinated) & Lemon Zinger Tea, & Wellbutrin! And, I drink LOTS of COLD Filtered water, too! I'm still on Wellbutrin, but I am slowly weaning myself off of it, too! I was taking 3 tabs a day for the first year, then reduced to 2 for a couple months, and now I am down to once a day at bedtime to help me relax so I can sleep! But, I only have about a 30 day supply left, and when it's gone, I'm DONE! But, I offer these as suggestions ONLY, because I can definitely tell you that what works for ONE, does NOT always work for all! So, the best advise I can give to any one is...try the suggestions you hear about, until YOU find the *right* one for YOU! GOOD LUCK! GREATEST *reward* EVER...a REAL dream come true!!!

After being smoke free for 15 months 4 days...I am beginning a new adventure! I am in the beginning stages of adopting 2 girls, sisters, Ashley is 13 yrs & Crystal is 12 years. I am so excited about the prospect of being a Mom again...since my son is grown and independent...and won't make me a proud Grandma! I lost my 6 month old baby girl in a car accident in 1975, and these two little ladies will be a dream come true! It's going to take 6 - 8 months to complete the process so the girls can come live with me...but, there are also other exciting doors about to open in the process, and will be well worth the effort! Hi all! I'm not new, but I am returning!

Like I say...each person has to find the way that WORKS for them! I tried for 28 years to quit! I tried accupuncture, stop smoking classes, patches (prescription strength), gum (prescription strength), Zyban (prescription strength), hypnosis, and every other gadget, gimmick, or gizmo they came out with that was *guaranteed* to work! But, it wasn't until I set my mind to it, was able to break the *reaching* habit FIRST, and then face, fight & deal with the temptations to rid my body of the nicotene that made me crave the cigarettes. And, for ME...the best way to get rid of the nicotene was to go through the *cold turkey* withdrawal with NO form of *nicotene* assistance. So, I armored myself with... 1) Rubberband to changing my thought pattern & retrain my brain to THINK about *reaching*, to break the habit. 2) Wellbutrin to soothe the *savage beast*, and calm the restless nerves. 3) Green Tea & Lemon Zinger herbal tea, as well as LOTS of ICE COLD filtered water for the healthy alternative to flush the Nicotene out my body. 4) Wrigley's Green Apple gum as a weapon against the cravings. 5) Determination to face it, fight it, and DEAL with it! And, I WON!!! But, as I say...what worked for ME, may not work for others! So, all I can do is pass on MY tools for others to try...if they work, GREAT! If not...don't give up! If you pick up that cigarette tonight...tomorrow is a new day, TRY again! Eventually you WILL get over that hump, and slide down the other side to homeplate! Good luck ALL! A Former Smoker?s Story

Tom, Don't be so hard on yourself...it happens, but tomorrow is another day! When I quit, I told myself I would NEVER *buy* a PACK of cigarettes again! And, along the way, I DID *bum* one from a friend or my son here or there...and I *choked* it about halfway. After being without for so long, it tasted nasty, it stunk, but, it took the *edge* off the craving & got me over that *hump* without breaking my oath to NEVER *buy* another pack. Then, I dusted myself off, and started a *new* day! I've done that a few times in the past year, and I found that each time was further & further apart, and the taste & stench got nastier, and it got easier & easier to deal with! I STILL have moments when the urge can be so intense, but...I take a long tall drink of ICE COLD water, and stick a Dum Dum sour apple sucker in my mouth...and by the time I finish that tiny sucker...the urge has moved on to bug someone else...Maybe that time it was YOU, LOL! SORRY! :confuse: I hope this will give you an idea to try, to see if it will help you conquer that graving & urge! GOOD LUCK! Hello! I'm new to the group!

I've HAD as many as 50 birds at one time...but, I have reduced my flock down to 3 that I can't part with, because they are MY hand fed/hand raised babies! I won't say *never*, because I LOVE my birds, and hand feeding babies is my passion, but my Disability is making it difficult to keep up with too many of them...so I don't *plan* on breeding anymore, but 2 of the 3 I have are a bonded pair...so, *nature* may deal me a different hand later on! Yes! After 28 years of trying...I have *FINALLY* arrived! I had many helpful tools, but the real secret is not to give up! Even if you stumble, pick yourself up, dust yourself off...and make your tomorrows a NEW day, and commit to quit again! Besides just water...try drinking a couple glasses of Decaf Green Tea each day! It's a good source of antioxidant, and helps flush the Nicotene out of your body faster! I still drink it regularly, too! I brew mine with Celestial Seasonings 1/2 Decaf Green Tea & 1/2 Lemon Zinger tea bags...but, Lipton has bottled Green Tea, too, and I was drinking that when I was working, because I had limited options for taking my brewed tea with me & keeping it cold because I was on the road 10 - 12 hours a day! I drank the Diet because of my Diabetes, but they have regular too! The Diet was good, so I'd think the regular should be better even! You can buy it at most convenient stores, Walmart, Sam's, and most anywhere they sell soft drinks & bottled water! Hope this helps!
