Hiya Pitstop - Congratulations mate. I just posted here as well with a 'I just quit' message. Looks like we are on about the same track. Keep it up. You can get through it. For me, my biggest help so far has been staying pissed off enough about the health issues assosciated with smoking and pissed off that I was a slave to the smokes. I also try to keep my mind off it, since I don't always stayed as pissed off as I need to be. :) I went to a pulmonologist 2 weeks ago. I'm currently 36. I've been smoking since about age 20, and seriously smoking since about 23 or so. I had to do a Pulmonary Function Test. It's the test where you breathe out as hard as you can into a machine that measures air-flow, resistance, etc. I was told I have the lungs of a 64 year old man. Nice, huh? B

Day 3 and I dont want to break

Hi Ryan - I am currently working on Week 4 of my quit. Believe me, I really really know and understand how hard this first day is. It sucks. There isn't a pretty way to dress it up. HOWEVER... You can, and will get through this. It's just 1 day. A few hours really. Just think about making it until Noon or so when you can go grab something to eat. A different location, no phones or customers or whatever. That's all you've just gotta do. Or make it something earlier if you want - Make it until your morning break or whatever. Then, just think about it! Just a couple more hours then you can go home!! Wooo! Just a couple hours! Heck, that's less than I'd often go between smokes anyways. Thinking like that helped me get through the first day. I broke it up into smaller segments. I also kept some hard candies and some Starburst around. Please stay in touch and let us know how it goes! triggers

Heh! I hope I didn't come across sounding mean. It wasn't my intention at all!! I was simply relating the sorts of things that worked for me! Take it all with a grain of salt - I'm just a newbie going through this as well. Again - I didn't intend to sound mean and I hope I didn't! This is not an easy road we go down. Yet it is. Isn't it strange how that works? I cannot tell you what specific thing will make it "easy" for you. I can only share what has helped me. You say you will forget your reasons for wanting to quit. Look around. You mentioned you have COPD. How is that for a start? Are you on O2? If not - think about it. It WILL be in your very, very near future. This is not a 'Could happen'. This is not a 'For some smokers...'. It is a certainty. If you have COPD and continue to smoke, you WILL be on oxygen. If you are already on oxygen - look around. Does this remind you why you need to quit? Look at that concentrator over there. Look at those tanks stashed in the closet or under the bed. Does that remind you? Those are the things that have helped me. I have been having health troubles. Potentially serious ones. That has kept me from forgetting why I have chosen to quit. It has helped make it 'easier'. When I smoke, I look down at my swollen legs and feet and remember why I've chosen to quit. You say no surgeon will touch you with the shape your lungs are in. Print that out and stick it all over your home. Print out the 'junkie thinking' thread and post that all over your home. Read messages here a lot - Post messages here a lot. Stay close and stay focused. I'd rather be an ex-smoker with an occasional craving for a cigarette than a smoker with a constant desire to quit. Remember that. IT should be more then just 240 cigs not smoked by now!

Hiya Joonie! I'm really glad to hear that you are getting back on top of things! You are a day ahead of me, so I definately feel for where you are. By the way, I ran the numbers for you... you are thinking sometimes like the numbers seem so low... Well - you know those Ford Excursions? The BIG gigundo SUV's? If you took your unsmoked cigarettes and laid them out... they would stretch the length of *7* of those monsters!! Can you even imagine that? 7 full Excursions of smokes. Yeow!! Anyways, stay in touch and let's head for that beach! Can't try any more...

WOo Hooooo! Congratulations. Welcome to a smoke-free life! Stay focused, don't lose your desire. Work through the items on the left-hand side of the screen there, if you haven't already. You CAN do this. Believe in yourself and stay focused. Read lots, post lots, and like you said - Stay Accountable. I'm very proud of you for taking this first step on your LAST quit.
