Scared about the weekend

I'm hanging in there! I caught up on some sleep this morning. I'm still waking up every few hours through the night, so I just kept going back to bed this morning until nearly noon!! Heh. However, I'm at work now. Figured I'd come in and get rid of some of the stuff that has built up over the past week since I've not been nearly as focused as normal. Figure I'll head off soon for a movie and then take things as they come! Thank you all for the support. I know you all know just how much it means to us just starting out! Today is the day

So how is my fellow 04/23'r doing today?? I've taken to keeping those plastic coffee stirrers around. I snip 'em in half and I can chew on 'em, drag on 'em, whatever. It's been kinda handy. Otherwise, I just keeping thinking about how it's ALREADY been almost a week! A whole week! Can you believe it?? Oops I Did It Again!!!!HELP

Good Morning Stubow - I think it is very true - each and every one of us has a completely different quit experience. I wish I could do whatever it takes for you to flip that switch that makes a quit "work". All I can really do is share what has been helping me so far. For me, it's been keeping myself angry at the consequences. Angry and afraid, really... I guess. You may have seen my other thread where I've talked about the health problems I've had so far. Most of these are either caused by or exacerbated by my smoking. I just have to keep reminding myself how STUPID it is that I'm 36 years old and having swollen legs. I'm 36 years old - it's STUPID that I'm going to the ER with Chest Pains. Every time that craving creeps up, I just remind myself - Do I really still want to be "That Guy"??? If things are this bad when I'm 36 - how bad are the going to be when I hit 40 and still smoke?? It's STUPID that I keep feeding this addiction even though I KNOW it's bad for me. It's been helping me. Maybe it will help you, or maybe it will spur you to find something that you can focus on. You DO have the strength to do this. You really, really do. You can make it. Stay Positive my friend - Bingo My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/23/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 5 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 107 Amount Saved: $15 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 18 Mins: 26 Seconds: 13

Scared about the weekend

I saw a couple of the other threads where people have made pledges to maintain over the weekend. I didn't want to threadjack them. :) The upcoming weekend has been sort of looming out there for me. I really am scared about dealing with it. This will be my first smoke-free weekend. I live alone, I don't have a large group of friends, and the ones I *do* have all work on Saturday (As did I until just a couple months ago). So basically, I have myself to myself for the weekend. I've been trying to plan ahead for this. At this point, I don't really too much care about eating all the right stuff or anything. I'm basically in a 'Whatever the heck it takes' mode. I do have SOME good stuff (fruit, etc). I'm thinking I'll go see a movie or something tomorrow afternoon. That should kill a couple hours. However, there is still a heck of a lot of free time in there! Sunday should be more or less okay, as I'm going to force a couple of my friends to do something Sunday afternoon whether they want to or not!! :) So please send me some really, really strong thoughts during the day Saturday. I'm nervous as heck, but dammit I WILL NOT GIVE IN!! Thanks folks - B

The New Journey Starts Now

Keep posting here Cuddles. I've enjoyed reading your posts. We are a day apart in our quits, and I certainly have been feeling many of the same things you have. Stay close here, and that avalanche may not even come. However, if it does - you will have dozens of hands holding on tight! Take care and never forget that we ALL (yourself included) believe you can do this. Reminders Why - Tough Day

Just wanting to put down some reminders why I'm doing this. I'm having a tough day today. My first really tough day so far. I'm proud of my 5 days, but it seems like so little today. I'm wanting to just cave and go smoke. I know it's the noctine. I know it's not real. But as I'm sure you know, it's still very, very powerful. It seems so much easier just to cave. The lack of sleep really has me strung out and tired. I'm just so damn tired. However.... that being said... I've got to stay focused. I've got to stay PISSED OFF. My doctor says I may have Pulmonary Hypertension. That may be due to possibly having Sleep Apnea. I go see a specialist in about 2 weeks. The reason I went to the doc in the first place was because my feet and legs have started swelling up. That's pretty damn creepy. I went to the ER last year, and then also 2 years previous to that. I was having chest pains and my blood pressure was going through the roof. Tons and tons of tests later - nothing concrete. It seems they all agree something is wrong - but no one knows what it is. This is STUPID. I am 36 years old. This is insane that I continue to engage in this activity that gives me the health issues of a 75 year old. I'm 36 years old and worrying about swollen legs and feet?!! How STUPID is that?? I'm 36 years old and landing in an Emergency Room for chest pain?!! How STUPID is that?? How STUPID is smoking?!! I want a cigarette because it's what I do. Have I even REALLY enjoyed them for the past several months?? How STUPID is hearing myself wheeze?? I am stronger than this. I just have to remind myself of that. I don't care how tired I am. If I keep reminding myself of these things I will be able to keep going. I hope you all understand this rambling. :) I really do feel like if I don't keep myself angry enough, I'm going to risk giving in. Thanks for letting me go off, and thanks for being there. :) B

Trouble Sleeping - So, so, so tired

Day 5. Who woulda thought I could even make it this far? I am so, so, so tired. I have had the worst couple nights of sleep. I seem to wake up about once an hour. I'm not getting any restful sleep! I've already suspected I have Sleep Apnea. In fact, I'm going in for a consult with a specialist in a couple weeks. This is just making things so much worse. I am honestly sitting here at work with my head lolling off to the side I'm so tired. I really hope this doesn't last long. I need my strength! :) I just want sleep. Dammit, I don't want to smoke. I'm NOT a smoker. I could, however, easily turn myself into a professional sleeper. B
